I agree with tonka not just with my dad but adults in general. You think you know but you dont. Should have picked something I love despite how much money I make. With women if I knew I could screw almost anyone just by asking I would have died of exhaustion but smiling

Meet her mom. If you can't stand mom politely decline and get out. You are dating mini mom.
Learn an instrument. It isn't that hard but it will take a lifetime to master and you need a hobby. Preferably pick one you can carry and people enjoy listening to. Bluegrass is best but do what you gotta do. Never strive to a great player...just strive to be a better player than you were yesterday and play daily. Save more money than you think you need to. Don't buy "stuff"....you don't own stuff....STUFF owns you!! You don't really need it you just think you do. Save the money you would have spent. Have some form of religion. Even if it is just pondering your place in the universe or being in awe of nature. Understand that there is something bigger than you and you are part of it and need to be a part of it. You don't exist in a vacuum. Go sailing. Learn to sit quietly for hours with no distractions and absorb the world around you. You do not need to be entertained or connected 24/7. You can do this while you play your instrument. The money you saved isn't for stuff ....it is for security. Security that allows you to live your life and have experiences that enrich your life. Not stuff...except for that instrument...buy the best you can afford since you will be playing it for the rest of your life. Always apex late on the street...... It is more fun to drive slow cars fast than fast cars slow....

"things I wish I knew/did when I was younger"
1. I should have conserve my body. When i am injured or have injury, it means to recover. I should never took the job which was very physical during my mid 30s 4 year straight without calling in or vacation. I should have quit when my joint was started to get uncomfortable.
2. Should have worked at less stressful or less hour job. I basically had no life (besides dating) when I was 24-34. 3. I should have learned how to kiss ass executives. eek. |

1. I should have worked on my education way earlier. I had the time and opportunity and just wasted it. 2. I should have been into computers way earlier. It took a boss who decided I'd be the company computer guy to force me to learn what has now become my career. 3. I look back (waaaaay back) on my teenage years and cringe at how moronic I was. You name it: girls, drinking, jobs, money, school...I screwed them all up. Joining the Army was the best thing I could have done. Still took me a decade to smarten up.

Yeah like a few comments...so much wasted money when I was younger on girlfriends, cars, drinking...if I had only saved 10-20% of it I could have had all the same fun but with something left over...so I will pass that on to my son for sure...

I also think it's important to question everything. Nearly anything you're told/taught, even in school, will have someone's motivation or bias, and I think it's best to do your own research, get all the facts, and consider what parts you might agree or disagree with. I see too many people blindly accepting what they're told simply because someone is in a more authoritative position. That being said, your elders are often full of wisdom, and what you refuse to learn from them, life will teach you in a much harder way. |

Biggest lessons i learned in life:
1) Not everyone is the same! Respect peoples difference. Just because your favorite color is red, you have to respect people who do not like red. I was very biased growing up mainly based on ignorant people i had around me but as i grew, i realized that what makes person A happy doesn't necessarily make person B happy. 2) I looked at myself from someone else's point of view (mainly from a Womans view) I used to be very judgemental of other people. I realized i wasn't that much better than the people i looked down on. So i definitely improved on that. My advice to you: Don't worry so much about saving money, 401k this and investment that. It's good to save but also live your life. If there is something you really want wether it's materialistic or a necessity go ahead and buy it. At the end of your life, it's not about how much money you made or saved.. IT'S ABOUT HOW MUCH MONEY YOU SPENT!
