2014 i3 is 6.8. The 2017 Chevy Bolt is 6.4sec. Interestingly enough, it shows TESLA is coming out with a pickup truck in 2019.......hmmmmm

It's funny to see such articles. I drove i3 pretty hard and man it was not fun at all. I mean it was the same as driving RAV4 hard. Just a car, and as any car, it can be drag raced.

so what happened after the lil i3 hit 60kph? The muscle car went screaming by it even while spinning the tires..

we could interpret the video differently too. maybe the challenger guy was trying to impress the lady with his smoky burnout and wasnt even racing off the line.

also, apparently bmw supports drag racing on public roads.

Those electric versus combustion videos are at least pathetic.

Electric motor and battery is over 100 years old technology; nothing new in here. Any idiot can install a battery and a motor.

I do not call technology any electric car, I3 or Tesla, or whatever. But I take my hat off in front of the manufacturer that build a combustion engine able to pull similar performances from an entire assembly of systems that relies on explosion. A lot of technology in there. Electric has no passion or emotions in it, it is just blunt.
That is THE TRUE TECHNOLOGY. And that is a true car not a train.

It is just another car.. yes.

But, a more efficient approach to construct a car and is like none other. That is what the i3 fans are really giddy about.

Honestly, this thing can't even safely get me to and from work and a stop at the gym without gas. For my secondary satellite office I'd have to stop and charge along the way. That is some pitiful range numbers, and just like you guys are saying the power is probably understated the range is ALWAYS overstated.
Actually I get 120 miles per charge out of mine if I drive light footed.

Though so far it's actually pretty accurate for normal driving.

But people forget, this car was designed for urban city dwelling like me in Chicago. The infrastructure is their and that's what BMW's selling it as. It was designed to show off their new CFRP tech and battery tech. Theirs not a city in the world that the i3 doesn't do great in for range. Plus with all the free charging all over the place I never go below half charge on my longest commutes The normal US commute was not its intention nor was it's design.

Now don't get me wrong BMW would love to sell them in droves obviously but in the end the i3 and i8 are just design statements to show off their investment which is trickling down to all of the other range of vehicles from the 7 series on down.

Hey at the end of the day it's just another option for people to get from point A to point B, if you hate it that's great, that's your opinion same as if you love it. It's just more options, can't think of a more boring world to live in if we didn't have options.

Also as a designer myself please understand that design is subjective and theirs different strokes for different folks, theirs all sorts of design, beautiful, quirky, utilitarian, I can go on and on but for a little city dwelling vehicle showcasing what BMW thinks is their future thinking in mobility and connectivity it is a great exercise .

It was not to long ago when BMW was playing with flame styling that every BMW fan was crying fowl and saying this new disgusting design direction would bankrupt the company, well it took a few generations of vehicles but they got it to work well. It's not easy braking new ground. The ones who do not innovate and take risks are the ones left behind.

It's a commercial not a video

You ever go up to someone in an i3 and tell them their car is stupid?

I think it looks stupid - I didn't say the car itself was stupid.

I know I am not the target market for this kind of car, and that's ok. But BMW definitely needs people like me to be more open to an i3-like vehicle, and there's no way I would consider one. The looks and experience aren't for me - perhaps that will change in the future. We will see...

Bmw needs to increase the range for sure. I like its quirky styling, it's certainly better than the vanilla Bolt and it's far from stupid.
