2017 i8 US Production
I was at a BMW owners event at my BMWi dealer in NorCal and learned some interesting facts about 2017 production. I was told 2017 production is effectively done. Only 600 cars will come to the US for model year 17. Most will be the limited flat black or yellow. His dealership was only getting 2. Let's face it people have been waiting for the i8s since the end of 2015. He also mentioned most cars coming back on trade are either silver or grey metallic. The highest demand in California is still for the Prontonic Blue. I think BMW may be trying to bolster the price floor at 100k so they can charge more for the LCI version.
He also elduded but would not confirm some i8s facts. The rear seats are gone in the i8s and it may get the inline 4 from the 7 series eDrive. He also wasn't 100% that 2018 would be released at EOY..... which is shocking considering the low 2017 volume. Last edited by NorCali8; 02-19-2017 at 12:24 PM.. |

I think convertible i8s won't come with rear seats .Your post makes me build up a connection between cars and watches . It's not very uncommon to see collaborations between car manufacturers and watch manufacturers . My point is relation between Rolex Daytona 116500 LN and BMW i8 , both of them aren't attainable and waiting lists for Rolex Daytona for stainless steel variant is ridiculous

The # of i8s for sale on cars.com has dropped from 260 to 190 in four months.

BMW is doing the same with their new M cars, regulating the supply much more to ensure early adopters and enthusiasts don't get burned as much as before with the devaluation of their special vehicles....at least that's what the plan is. This may bode well for the ones who bought the early models not to flip it but to drive and enjoy it for some time.
