UK I8 Owners

Hi

So I cant seem to find a UK only i8 forum/FB group to thought I'd 'reach out' (sorry!) to see whats what.

I'm 4 weeks and 2000 miles into i8 ownership with a silver 15 plate 15k mile car, moving on from an M6, with succession of 3 series before that. (pictured at handover)

Planning to keep for a couple of years and 40k miles and loving it so far.

So UK owners are you out there? who are you...

Have done half your mileage in the last 9 months. Not found enough time to drive it

I’ve had a 2015 30Kmiles for 2 months and love it! Came from an V8 and amazed at the smoothness of this 3 cylinder. Originally I wasn’t to enamoured with the i8 looks but after a test drive I thought ‘this is good!’. Just had a charger installed for free with the grant scheme ; £500 from the UK gov and £300 from the Scottish Gov. So tax payers getting shafted to the sum total of £800 quid for a £150 quid waterproof box with a simple PCB, Relay, RCD and 15m of cable is way OTT.

Nice one. Which charger did you get installed?

So the UK register is now down by one as my lifestyle is not going to change anytime soon so I sold it for cash rather than have it sit in the barn unused for the next 6-8 months. No regrets and I hope the next owner will be able to give it the attention it deserves - Oct 2016 car 4.8k miles and headed for Auction now. I will be very envious of every one I see on the road from now on !

Hello UK/US i8 owners,

I'm looking to purchase a used 2 or 3 year old i8, and any advice would be much appreciated.

What should I be scrutinizing during the inspection & test-drive, in terms of :

1. Diagnostic/Malfunction Warning Lights - would these easily show up on dashboard if there was a fault ?

2. Long-term Lithium battery health (other than the obvious % charge left indicators)

3. Components, seals in the vehicle which are especially prone to failure

Thanks,
Alf

Yes - took me about 1.5 hrs to complete. It's not too hard at all.

Is it worth it? Read somewhere they have release a newer version of the ECU so you can pick the sound? Where is the best place to buy it from?

I guess the answer to whether or not it is worth it is subjective. If you want something louder with a slightly different tone vs the standard spec, then it's worth it.

I'd be interested to hear what the new sound options are... but I couldn't see any videos/sound clips on the Maxhaust website when I looked today.

You can buy it directly from Maxhaust complete with all the wiring bits and pieces.
