The engine you want in an i8S

225kw and 450nm, up from 170kw and 320nm with the current inline 3.

Looks like BMW are using the i8's know-how and applying it to the 4 pot.

Or just lower the electric range, but increase the power output of the electric motor - just like the NSX

With a bigger engine, the car would get a little porky. Wasn't the main goal to have a car in the 3300 lb range?

Obviously different spec engines but it looks like only about 30kg difference between the B38 and B48 when in the F30.

BMW made the car the way it is for a reason. But would be great if there was a "next gen" with more performance.

For the cost I leased it at, I'm ok with how BMW configured it. Do I wish for more performance sometimes, of course. Many fail to see the value at the msrp price point. If I were asked what performance improvements would I want on a next gen to create more demand at USD $150k, my suggestion would be:

320-370hp ICE (450-500hp total)
Front torque vectoring
Wider stickier tyres
More powerful brakes
0-60mph in 3.0
Able to complete a 25 min track session

Agree with all of this, and I would add more feel from the steering, plus a dual clutch gearbox.

BMW got it pretty much spot on though, given the i8's design brief

Able to complete a 25 min track session. Really all I ask of the next car. The design philosophy can stay.
