That is because you have a 2014 i3 -the iDrive hardware does not support CarPlay.

Thanks. I understand I have to add a module or whatever for it to work. Was seeking opinions on the subject or alternatives that might be cheaper than Bimmertech.

Can the dealers enable CarPlay on any 2018 i3? I'm shopping for one now and haven't seen any in stock with CarPlay and one salesman thought they couldn't activate it as they do on other models.

They should. $300 subscription for 3 years. Join the i3 Worldwide Group on FB. You can find more info there.

I've also seen other posts online about buying lifetime codes. I think a site called OEM Navigations sells them. They also sell map upgrades and codes to install.

CarPlay should be available at the ConnectedDrive store in your iDrive.
