Good bye to my bud: Chucky

Today I lost my best friend Chucky. He is the chocolate lab in my avatar. This morning we went jogging and played fetch. Later he got out of a our yard to chase a trash truck and was ran over. It fractured his spine, pelvis and two legs on his right side. He would have never walked again and we put him to sleep. He was an incredible dog. My wife, son and I will miss him greatly.

My regards man. I've seen you're Chucky avatar ever since I've been on the site. I'm really sorry to hear this happened to your buddy.

My dog recently passed away as well. I went to NY for 3 days last month, got a call while I was there that he passed away. He wasn't even a year old yet. Didn't know how I would deal with it. Quite frankly, I didn't want to face it. But I found the best method is to take it step by step, day by day.

Once again, I'm sorry for your loss. RIP chucky.

You could say that I'm a "dog person". I had two Shih Tzu's, one for 17 years and one for 13 years. They were my best friends. When they died I truely was devestated. I know you hurt now but as time goes by the great memories you shared will comfort and sustain you.

Having said this and I do feel your pain, why in the world did you not have your dog on a leash and under control? I wish you well.

Believe me, I've gone over it in my head a million times today. He usually wears his "shock collar" but we had just come back from jogging (with a leash) and he was between collars. The only thing that makes me think it would not have made a difference is that last week he crossed the barrier WITH his collar on to chase the UPS truck. It was the first time in 4 years. Today he decided to do the same. He normally would roam around our 1.25 acre lot and not cross.

oohhh man, what a horrible way to start your day! sorry to hear that! i had a doberman get run over when he was a year old. i think his age made him more resilient, and only broke a paw and recovered!

do you think you might replace him quickly? for your son's sake? or give every one a while to heal? either way good luck man!

I don't think we will replace him any time soon. He was REALLY special to us. I think we need some healing time.

Sorry to hear! I to have labs, 3 to be exact. My family used to breed so we have the Mom(rosie) and her 2 girls(lucy and Thyme).

We have had 2 labs of our own pass in the past 10 years. 1 from a mouth cancer that attacked her brain and the other from what's called "dead dog walking syndrome", it's basically a uterus infection that's rather easy to miss if the vet has never seen a case before. Well our dog was the first one for him.

For my family we always got a new pup shortly after the passing of one. Mainly for the sake of the other dog since we have typically had 2 dogs at any given time. The dog just wouldn't leave the back door waiting for the other to come home. So we got a pup to help our other dog cope as well as us.

Again sorry for your loss. I dread the day that one of my girls may pass.

As a single guy who loves dogs, that is hard to read. My Westie is my buddy. Before Boo, I had to put down my Shnauzer(sp) Cleo, 15 years old and started fainting(weak heart). It was brutal. I had to remove all items that were hers, food and water dishes, leash, pictures, everything. It helped me. Hope you all heal from your loss, eventually.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. We had to put our dog down years ago. It's tough to replace a good dog.
