Is that really necessary? Dogs get loose, it happens. No need to make the guy feel bad.

To the OP, I'm very sorry to hear about Chucky.

Wow, im very sorry, I have a chocolate lab who is 11 years old. We both grew up together basically,

Oddly enough about two years ago (seems like yesterday) I was In the side of the house when i realize i left the gate on the side of the house open, my dog was looking at the gate with determination, she thought it was a game. So she dashes for it, and I sprint to close it before she gets out, but she managed to go under my legs and get out..(i live on a fairly busy street, with cars going around 35-40mph)

Shes out and eyes me, stops for a second and starts jumping around like she wants me to chase her, i stayed calm and whistle for her to come, but i accidentally moved my arm too fast and she took off, into the street. she was sideswiped immediatly by an audi TT going full speed. I dont know if it was the tires trying to break or her yelping, it was weird. She flew about 50 ft forward, tumbled a few times and was on the floor.

I remeber all of this so vividly, I remember picking her up and having that guy who hit her say " im late im very sorry " (he was a docter or something, he was wearing scrubs) and the guy took off, he knew i coulndt do anything with the dog in my hand and took advantage of it...

So I Have this dog, at the time i was a month away from turning 16, but couldnt drive, so I do whats best and just confort her until my parents came (30min trip), I was afraid of internal bleeding, she had a clear compound fracture on her rear legs and her back skin split wide open, both my towels were soon filling up with blood, and she was just looking at me panting. I had no idea how she was still alive. She then tried to get up and i had to force her not to move.

Thankfully, she came out alright, had some painkillers, had a caste and she was all better after a few weeks, the docters couldnt beleive she was not harmed much at all, he said "most dogs this size usually dont make it through as this breed are fragile"
Shes still her fortunatly, I cant imagine life without her...Im sorry for you but even more for your son, It must be sad to lose your "best friend" at that age.

Thanks everyone for your kind words. Driv3er, that's a good story. I'm really glad your dog made it
My wife and I were in the front yard when it happened. We did not see or hear him come out. We heard a thump amd a brief yelp and I ran to the street. He was laying there in a pool of blood with hir rear leg torn up. He did not even try to get up (he was paralyzed from the fractured spine) but he was not even crying. He just looked at me with his silly grin like saying: "check out what I did". He kept his cool much better than my wife and I. Luckily my son was at a sleep over and did not see the trauma. He got to say good bye at the vet after he waas put to sleep. We did not want him to see him prior because Chucky was starting to look weak from shock. It has been a sad morning today because he is not here for our Sunday morning routine. I started to put all his things away this morning and could not stop crying

So sorry to hear about your beautiful dog. I lost my beloved 8yr old Rottweiler to an acute heart failure (died happy & jumping) last year and I miss her still. I never thought losing a dog would hurt so profoundly, but it did, and you have my heartfelt condolences.
