Are rear stop lights engaging during regen breaking?

Are rear stop lights engaging during regen breaking? I'd consider this important safety aspect.

+1 interested to know full functionality as well. from what i've heard i believe once the minimum deceleration threshold is reached, the lights engage ... so not all times/conditions of regen will cause tails to illuminate

Yes not all the time. If you decrease speed more than a threshold then only they engage. I first checked this via the 3D model of the car which mimics real time light signals in my vehicle option of idrive. Then also asked a friend to check in a parking lot.

Did you test if trying to use regen to come to a stop at a red light? I'm nervous it's not on and someone will not see I'm stopping

On other EVs I've experienced, the lights come on once you hit a certain threshold of deceleration.

You can think of it as the same as engine braking, in a manual transmission car the lights don't come on with the limited engine braking deceleration.

I'm sure there is a regulation around this, I'm just not sure what the rate of deceleration is or the verbiage.

If your home screen includes the MY BMW widget in Adaptive Content mode, it shows live state of the brake lights (and turn signals), so you can watch for yourself when regen activates them. Sport Mode adds the HP and torque view.

In full screen (versus widget) you get a front quarter view that you can drag around to see the brake lights, but it swings back to the front after a few seconds.
