It really depends on the condition of it and if it's an automatic movement, etc.

I've been wearing my rep while the real one is saved for worthy occasions and I would give this one away whenever I'm done with it. It's in good shape, but I only paid 100 dollars for it (automatic movement, working chronograph). It's been my daily watch for the last 5 years so I wouldn't feel good charging someone any kind of money for it if I let it go some time soon (my initial plan is to keep it until the hands stop moving permanently).

Replacement costs suck.

Replacement costs will suck on your M3 too so will that prompt you to go m-badge out a 325? To me this statement highlights the importance of living within your means. If you can't afford maintenance or replacement costs then I'd say you're in the wrong price bracket for watches.

Between both services in 14 years, the Datejust cost me roughly 2400 including the certified, insured shipping back and forth to San Francisco.

The Daytona I could a few years ago is still running smooth so I'm sure it won't need service for a few more years.

Are you pretty hard on your watches? I have quite a number so only wear my sea dweller couple times a month but can't see it needing service unless the lube dries out.

I pick up inventory for my business the next town over. I'm moving multiple boxes at a time each trip at a frequency of 3-4 times a week. Then I also work on the various things my building needs.

Call me cheap, but it saves my business tons of money to do this kind of stuff myself. So I would much rather beat on my 100 dollar watch.

If your doing all this work that's hard on your watches then why are you not wearing a g-shock or something? Is the purpose of your watch to tell you the time or to convey your status to others? The only reason I can think of is you need to be seen in a Rolex. To me that's a slippery slope of ego and keeping up with the joneses. It's probably no question the g-shock will be more durable for what you're doing and it will last longer than your fake Rolex that you have to reset 2-3 times a week. And to your point of what I can afford, I do own an M3 but the Rolex was just way beyond my means.
