I work in finance (Chicago). They told us no business travel, no meetings across different locations/offices, no team meetings of more than 20 (?) people and preferably no client meeting unless very sensitive/urgent.

They are also considering splitting us into two groups and we would rotate on a weekly basis between home and office.

Some of the non-client facing teams are already working from home.

Same with me. Except I'm T Rowe Price. Don't even want to look. I know it'll be worse than my nightmares.

I work for one of the dot com giants in Seattle. From what I've heard all the major ones (Amazon, FB, MS, etc.) have told employees to WFH till the end of March at least. Our company's communication has said "If you can work from home please do".

We still have a lot of my teammates going in and even filling 10-15 person meeting rooms. I'm not that threatened at the thought of getting what seems to be a normal flu, but if we have a reason to stay working from home I'm all for that too lol. I have a feeling there is unofficial pressure on the people that are still going in to come in no matter what, which sucks for them (workers that don't have full green card status or citizenship).

Pathogen filtration in the ventilation system, decontamination showers, different sectors by risk levels, and panic buttons attached to flamethrowers that vaporize all life forms in contaminated sectors.

At least that was my proposal, which was rejected for some reason. Instead we got Purell dispensers.

I work from home and now my wife's firm has told her to do the same. Dammit, this is my office, woman!

I've stopped showering. Wouldn't want her to miss the homeless people. Guess I'll start cranking music so it feels like SXSW is still happening.

I am in healthcare and am in hospitals daily. Deal with it? I’m an outdoor cat, though.

The company as a whole has the office farm working from home with travel on lockdown. Canceled trade shows. No visitors to any of our campuses (even if you’re an employee from a different location). Long list of precautions with a lot of things donated by the company to contain and fix. Let’s see how she do!

It sort of didn’t hit my neck of the woods yet, but there are a few countermeasures in place with more to come if things get worse.

Travel to certain areas have been restricted but many of the conferences that I typically attend have already been cancelled. Other measures are more minor but include increased cleaning of common areas, leaving interior doors open so people don’t have to touch them, hand sanitizer locations, etc. If things get worse staff that is able to work at home will likely be asked to do so.

I'm a Doc albeit not Emergency Medicine so not quite first line. No changes besides a ban on international travel and shaking hands is discouraged. Whatever happens happens.

Life seems business as usual in Southern California, I'm more pissed at how markets are in free fall and that it's going to rain all week. From what my family/friends in Seattle say, that entire region is on lockdown. My folks are working strictly from home.

I maintain that Covid is certainly concerning, esp for the elderly/immunocompromised population, but I strongly feel the media has sensationalized this and is fear mongering for profit. It's also unfortunate seeing how this has been politicized.

The IT policy person in me says thank you for your silence. The part of me that spent 7 weeks in the hospital a few years ago says thank you for your service and career choice.....

When my boss was heading out to an emergency team meeting late last week, he had an idea of suggesting that we target 4/1 as an arbitrary date for moving classes online if it was required. I suggested that he change his plan to 3/23, since students will be leaving campus for spring break and that is their scheduled return date. It makes a natural break with all of the students already off campus, plus the faculty will have the "research week" during spring break to prepare for teaching synchronous/asynchronous classes remotely.

Anyway, I was just watching the morning TV news, and several major universities are switching to online classes starting 3/23...because that's also their first day back from spring break. Great minds think alike.....

Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to work remotely. I am able to work from home as long as needed, but people like construction, factory, security or any other job that requires physical presence is kind of stuck unless the business decides to shut down.

The other thing we are doing is allowing people to make time back up over a period of time, like 8 hours per weeks they arenít force to take all their PTO or time without pay.

I'd be perfectly fine being quarantined at home. I have so many projects I need to do in the garage and have a bunch of workout equipment in my basement.

I don't think a lockdown is realistic since it would need to go on for more than 2 weeks. People can have it and not know it for quite a while. Once the lockdown is lifted they will rush out and start the cycle all over. Further some would need to be out even in a lockdown (healthcare, public service, safety, utilities, etc.) and many others would violate. People don't even do easy stuff like get a flu shot so no way they stay home for 2 weeks. Plus there are homeless that can't really be locked down unless locked up. You can't wipe this out entirely in a week or two even with good compliance.

Additionally, unless we keep people from travelling internationally, or visiting from international locations, it would be pointless unless everyone in the world followed the lockdown. Doesn't happen for "regular" flu and not gonna happen for this. Maybe if it happened in China immediately after discovery but too late now.

some place are more nuts than other. Lets say I'm working where 48 000 passengers are transiting each day.

No control or whatsoever. yet. tons of people with mask tho.

But won't be mad if they send me home

it will slow down the virus from spreading in local communities, buying more time to develop a vaccine. At that the rate its spreading it will reach a million in next few months, death toll will be over 10,000 or more.

My wife works in the local hospital, they aren't taking any unusual precautions. This notice is about it;

"Regarding public testing for coronavirus COVID-19. If you suspect that you are infected with coronavirus, or have been in contact with someone with coronavirus, do not go to the hospital or to your doctor. You could infect other people including much-needed healthcare workers. Contact your local health department and follow their advice.

If you feel sick with fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, and have traveled internationally or were in close contact with someone with coronavirus in the 14 days before you began to feel sick, please alert your health care provider before going to an already scheduled appointment or the emergency department."
