This is what we are seeing in SC.

2,232 Total Positive. But we have been seeing a daily decline of positive cases for the last 3-4 days.

PHL says 7,950 tests performed, and 7,027 negative. With private labs and PHL combined, 21,384 have been tested. But they don't give the "negative" tests or ones they are awaiting results on. But the positives are being reported it seems given the higher total number.

DHEC reports that as of April 5, its Public Health Laboratory has conducted 7,950 tests for COVID-19. Of these tests, 923 were positive and 7,027 were negative. A total of 21,384 tests by the Public Health Laboratory and private labs have been conducted in the state. DHEC’s Public Health Laboratory is operating extended hours and is testing specimens seven days a week. The Public Health Laboratory’s current timeframe for providing results to health care providers is 24-48 hours.

Hospital Utilization

As of April 5, 5,944 hospital beds are available and 6,202 are utilized, which is a 51.1 percent statewide hospital bed utilization rate, according to the DHEC announcement. The overall trend this week has been in greater hospital bed availability, specifically a 7.2 percent decrease in hospital bed utilization since March 23.

Also work has asked us to start wearing masks when around people inside the plant even though we are at least 6ft. apart.

We're normally allowed to carry over 40 hours of vacation to the next year, but that won't be the case. They're asking us to burn most of our vacations to cover shut down, which is fine by me. I'd rather do that than not get paid at all or lose our jobs.

Crazy times. The one good thing out of all of this is I eat out less and getting more done at home on cars and house projects. It'll be interesting how we proceed next month because a lot of us can't easily work from home.

2) Overlap with the end of cold and flu season. The symptoms overlap and COVID-19 is chameleonlike.
3) Swabbing technique. These are supposed to be nasopharyngeal swabs that are done about 3 inches inside your nose. People don't tolerate that well and
swabbers don't go that deep unless well trained.
4) Testing of contacts. If enough tests are available, contacts of COVID-19 positive people are being tested, many of whom don't have the disease.
5) Test delays. Now that testing is backed up 7-10 days in many places, samples are sitting, sometimes in environments that could degrade the sample.
I'm sure there are other reasons out there. Testing is a sh*tshow still.
I think that 70-80% is the total accuracy including the manual part. The tests (even the quick turning ones) are pretty accurate but I guess you need to shove that swab deep in which is not the case 100% of the time.

The thing about testing, especially when it comes to frontline folks, is that they could take a sample now, which will eventually prove negative, and two minutes after they swab you, you walk through the jetwash of someone who does have it and just sneezed. So by the time your original sample comes back saying you don't have it, you might anyway.

I noticed a lot of our warehouse workers brought in masks and they have them on working in the warehouse but they take them off when they go outside to smoke or eat lunch together.

Our GM finally got one of the digital thermometers to read everyones temperature. Each morning he walks around the shop pointing and yelling "get your ass over here" with a big grin on his face lol. I think he is really having a blast doing it, cracks me up.

This is some of our maintenance guys. I've been laughing about it for a few days. On the production floor, they are working on various shit, usually alone, with bandanas over their mouths. They go on break or lunch, all of them are huddled up at one table with no masks on.

I'm also noticing lots of people driving alone in their cars, wearing masks. I think it's safe in there by yourself. I also see a lot of people with masks on, but pulled down leaving their mouth and nose exposed. What's the point?

Or they pull them down to talk to you. Wear gloves in the bathroom and then wash them. Somehow people think they are magic.

unrelated to COVID-19 but don't you love it when restaurant employees prepare your food wearing the same plastic gloves that they used 30 seconds ago to empty the trash, tie their shoelaces and take cash from another customer?

Yeah, I went for a walk Sunday morning and saw a guy in my neighborhood with a mask and gloves on driving his car alone. As I continued to walk I wondered why he was wearing a mask and gloves. I speculated he must share the car with someone like a wife and was being extremely cautious. But as I continued to walk I wondered why since he was in the same house with her and they can't possibly be living their lives in masks and gloves 24/7. If anything, he touched stuff with the gloves on and brought it into the car by leaving the gloves on. So I concluded he wasn't thinking about it anywhere as much as I was on my walk.

If you see something, say something or leave applies.

I went to the grocery store last night. Everyone just had random crap they found in their car wrapped around their heads. It looked like Halloween in a trailer park. I kept ending up in the same aisle with this guy, that had his mask at his chin and he talking to someone on his phone via speaker. Another guy as I was walking out of the store pulled his mask down to spit 3 times in the parking lot.

Me neither. I started with knowing I had to come in two days a week. I try to work from home but I'm having a hard time navigating through the systems I need to toggle between. I did bring a monitor and mouse home for the laptop but still having a hard time. So this week I'm here three days. I would much rather be home. This is getting dicey.

Very true.

So at one of the schools my company does tech contracting for, they decided to do a "drive-up" technology help center in the parking lot where staff and parents can bring their devices to get issues resolved that can't be done remotely. One of my techs calls me the other day in tears, apparently some parent came up and "didn't have much time" and expected an issue to be resolved fairly quickly. Well the procedure for the techs is they have to wear gloves, maintain a safe distance, use sanitizer, etc which makes the process take a bit longer than normal. This parent starts flipping out at the tech and cursing at her (with her young child in the back seat mind you) because she is taking too long (still under 10 min at this point). It's a good thing I wasn't there to witness that.
