Driver restraint system error

The last two days I got a “Driver Restraint System” error telling me to take the car to the dealer, as well as message to recalibrate the driver seat.

I called roadside assistance and they got me in touch with a master technician in their team who run diagnostics remotely and walked me through the calibration of the seat. I took a few tries but finals reset and all is clear.

...and what were the steps? I had the same error a few days ago but for the passenger side and, despite following what I thought were the correct steps to recalibrate the seat, it's still behaving oddly.

When trying to adjust the passenger seat forwards or backwards, it only moves in 2-second durations, each time having to remove pressure on the button and reapply.

The warnings are no longer evident in the car but doesn't show resolved in the MyBMW app.

Turn the car on and stand outside by the door with the door open.
Push the seat bottom control forward till it stops and keep doing it (it takes a number of times) till it is finally all the way forward very close to the steering wheel. At that point when it stops it goes back a touch on its own.
Repeat the process all the way back. It stops and you have to start it a number of times till it is all the way back when it will also stop and pull forward a touch.
Do the same with the seat back having it lean all the way back and then all the way forward.

That cleared the error and the recalibration request. The technician was on the phone and walked me through it.

BTW to get the master technicians who also have ability to access the car remotely and run diagnostics and resets you have to ask the road service people to connect you to them.

Thanks.

Though have always struggled with the above. I must have set something somewhere that turns the car off when exiting.

This happened to my 24 iX 50 a few weeks back, but the calibration didn’t work. The car had to go to the dealer and they ordered a new seat module and updated the software. All resolved in under a week.
