I would strongly consider buying that instead of the Rivian I have on order (which may not come until early 2023...) but when I option it, $98k.... That's a solid $20k more than the RS1 and Im not sure about BMW tax credit standing. They have to be close to phasing out.

The issue isn't BMW with the tax credit, it's the US government and new EV rules from the build back better plan. Anything over $85k (SUVs, thinks cars is something stupid like $55k) doesn't qualify and if your income is over a certain amount you also no longer qualify.

This is why I say Rory is all corporate speak. He's kissing the ass of this car so hard, even proclaiming he loves the way it looks. Dude's narrative flies in whichever direction his bosses tell him to go.

I thought his review was fairly balanced and I find his general reviews are better quality than most. He pointed out issues and at the end he said it was a niche car that wouldn't suit specific people who couldn't charge overnight and whom baulked at the cost.

I can understand him liking the looks. It's not a beautiful thing but people like conventionally ugly dogs (and other things) so I don't equate that statement to him sucking up to corporate.

I love how he said it doesn't feel too big and unwieldy and yet every rolling shot of it going around a bend has it crossing over the center line on whatever B road they were shooting on.

Without the $7,500, I’m buying my wife the X3M that’s in stock at the local dealership.

A lot of car shows do that - seen that loads on Top Gear, Fifth Gear etc.

BBB didn't and hasn't passed at this point- and it's unlikely too. Thus, old rules apply, and the question is if BMW still has federal credits left and if the state the potential buyer lives in offers any.

The moral of the story is you want it better to buy early than to wait.

To launch iX Version 1 on time (although late if measured by Tesla progress), BMW inevitably had to make some compromises. I hope iX Version 2 will be the vehicle which becomes a lead in its market segment. To be continued as BMW faces more competition.

I hope your wife likes a really flinty ride, the X3M is not comfortable and doesn’t float over the road like the iX does. In other words, two such completely different vehicles as to make cross shopping irrelevant.

For ex, I have an X3 3.5 M Sport with EDC. It is extremely comfortable in Comfort mode, and reasonably sporty in Sport. Based on that, I thought I wanted to replace it with an M Sport 5 series, but when I drove that one, I realized it wasn’t for me. Felt like a bigger even more refined car, with imprecise steering, slower steering which gave it a more limo-like feel, and in the end no better comfort at one end of the scale, nor better sportiness at the other end. So I kept the X3 in the end.

The iX in my view is the next gen “5 series” from BMW. Superlative cruiser with a modern interior. If you aren’t in that market, don’t look at one. It won’t drive like anything smaller from the BMW range.
