It's time for delivery... iX xDrive50 delivered!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
It's time for delivery. The car has been in Sweden for more than a week and I am waiting for the call. I'm taking delivery of a BMW iX xDrive 40. I testdrove an iX xDrive 40 in early October and by late November I made up my mind and got my hands on a preorder that was already built so I couldn't change anything. The car had the right options but the wrong color, Blue Ridge Mountain. I think I can live with the color but will wrap it if I can't. But more on that later, now I want to focus on what I'm driving today and why I'm changing cars

I drive a 2020 BMW X5M Competition. It's a very rare car in Sweden. Only 37 is registered and I have never seen another one on the road. It has been my dream car for many years but I commute at least 160 km every day and with what I believe is the most expensive gasoline in the world, more than 2€ for a liter, its simply not doable doing it in a car that average 14 liters per 100km. But in early 2020 Corona became a pandemic. I was forces to start working from home and I had no more commute, so I traded in my 2019 X5 M50d and got a X5M competition.

The car was one of the first to arrive to Sweden and it was standing on my dealer's showroom floor. Carbon black and fully loaded. I absolutely love this car! The sound from the engine is just amazing. And the handling is unbelievably good for being such a heavy car.

I've had the X5M for about 18 months now. And I've been working from home the entire time. And yet I have driven the car almost 50.000km so I have used it quite a lot. I have actually spent around 15.000€ on gasoline during the pandemic working from home.

There is a huge EV wave in Sweden right now. It is selling a ton of electric cars and I think BMW is late to the game. BMW Sweden think gasoline/diesel cars will be banned from city centers as early as 2025 and no new gasoline/diesel cars can be sold by law by 2030. Its changing fast now. In a couple of years time gasoline can be 50% more expensive than today.

In November Sweden started opening up. My customer wanted me to come into their office. So, I realized I needed to change car. I want the iX M60 but they don't think I can get one until 2023 since it's not even released yet. The xDrive 50 was my second choice because of range but right now there is a 12-18 months wait for it. No customer 50s has arrived to Sweden yet. My dealar had a preordered iX xDrive 40 with all the packages so I bought it but I will be ordering a M60 as soon as I can

I was worried for the resale value of the X5M Competition but I am actually getting more for my X5m than I'm paying for the iX xDrive 40.

After I finalized the deal the pandemic has changed again and I'm once again forced to work from home. I actually have Corona right now and has spent the Christmas in quarantine. I have two shoots av vax and I'm doing fine.

I'm really excited for something new. I need a change. I have had my dream car and I love it but it is time for me to move on. Now, if only I could get the call…….

Today I took delivery of a BMW iX. But not the one I thought, there are some big changes

Two days ago I got a call from another dealar in Stockholm Sweden. I was there about 5 weeks ago trying to buy their showroom iX xDrive 50. I got a hard no. They called me two days ago to ask me if I still wanted to buy their iX xDrive 50. Yes, I wanted that very much. So, I have had a couple of days canceling my iX xDrive 40 and getting new financing done. At 16:45 today everything fell into place and my wife drove me to the dealer so I could collect the car at 17:45, only 15 minutes before they would close for the year.

They think this is the first customer sold car in Scandinavia. There are only 6 registered iX xDrive 50 in Sweden and that includes press cars and showroom cars so it is pretty safe to say that I got the first one. There are about 110 iX xDrive 40.

It is a loaded, black exterior and black interior. It has everything you can option out the car with. There are no more options available.

I'm still positive for Covid-19 so we did an outdoor delivery in the dark cold rain with masks on. Sorry for the bad photos

The drive home was about an hour. The ride is super smooth. And it is so quiet. ID8 is super. But there are some basic differences between the iX and my X5MC. Automatic high beam. It's always on and if I want to turn it off, I must go deep into iDrive. I can't adjust the distance to the car in front of me, its automatic. I can't turn on massage seats in an easy way. Nowhere to press but I have to read mote about this. There are cameras in the cabin that I can watch from the app. The sound system is superior the one I got in my X5MC. The 8 shortcut buttons are gone but you can still crate shortcuts that are available when pushing iDrive forward

I know exactly how you feel right now. My car was probably on the same boat and I’m as well waiting for the call as the car came into Sweden around a week ago. I also live in the Stockholm, Sweden area.

I look also forward to a new car. Had mine X3 30e for 23months now. I was one of the first to get the X3 30e delivered in Jan 2020 but due to corona and working from home I haven’t used it as much as I would hoped. But for me the contrast to the iX40 is naturally as big as for you with X5MC as i drive 90% electric already today. But really happy with my X3 as well but looking forward to something new.

Hope you get well soon! (krya på dig!)

Good to hear the delivery is starting to Sweden - waiting for something good you always wait too long Been waiting soon almost a year since pre-order but have now got production week 3 and hopefully delivery of my 50 4-5 weeks later in Stockholm as well.

Been driving X5 45e for more than 2 years and am happy with everything except as I drive 99% electric the car accelerates so slow which is the downside of all hybrids if you're not using both engines.

Looking forward to getting some reviews of the iX as soon as you get them!

Congrats!

The radar cruise control is supposed to have the distance setting in the menus instead of an easy to use button on the steering wheel and there may be a setting depending on your country for it to adjust automatically; hopefully it does also let you pick a manual setting instead. My guess is that they found that most people rarely change the distance set, but for those that do, or for those rare times you want to, this will be a pain in the butt.

From p236 of the English user manual

Adjusting the distance
1. Press the button.
2. "Driver assistance"
3. "Driving"
4. "Distance control"
5. "Distance"
6. Select the desired setting

Congrats sward

Once you had some time behind the wheel, please share what you like and/or dislike about your iX. I have a loaded iX 50 on order and would appreciate your take as an owner.

Thanks

Congrats! I have been very skeptical of the iX, but the more I see it in the wild, especially in darker exterior colors, the more I like it.

I left Lexus after owning 3 RX SUV's and joined BMW in 2012 with my first BMW X5. I purchased my 2012 and am leasing my 2020 X5. I thought that I would change BMW's every three years. However, I fell in love with the 2022 iX the first time I saw it online. I just about jumped out of the car when I saw one in person at our local EV exposition last summer. I had planned to lease a X6 in 2022, but that idea changed entirely. I ordered my iX in Aug. 2021 in Aventurin Red, just like the one at the EV exposition. I brought my husband over to the BMW family from Audi, when he bought his 2019 X3 m40i. I think that he regrets not buying a X5 however, every time that he is "allowed" to drive mine. He ordered his iX in Phytonic Blue. I think he configured all the options available. Our leases expire this summer. Needless, to say we will be purchasing these vehicles. If there is a delay in delivery this summer, BMW Financial told us that they will extend our leases as needed.
Glad to see that your driving experience is similar to the reviews that I see on YouTube. My salesman says that the two Lithium ion batteries are warranted for 9 years. Maintenance will be minimal compared to my X5's and of course no more paying rising gasoline prices. Congratulations on your purchase. Looking forward to driving mine home too. Thanks for your review.

What are your thoughts about iX seats vs X5M seats?

Beautiful. Looks very high-end and luxurious, and makes the X5MC look like older than it is. Congratulations.

Gas cars aren't going anywhere fast. They currently have like 99 percent marketshare. But if you are afraid, buy the very best one you can get now and hold it forever in garage #3

Agree and that's why I have my E92 M3. However, will miss new cars that make beautiful engine, exhausts noises, etc.

Probably so but it's an end to a beautiful era I personally enjoyed and grew up with. Can't deny electric cars performance but the exhaust and engine noise is a part of being auto enthusiast, I think
