I just say 4 door sedan mostly unless someone is asking that I know is a car person and would actually like to know it's an M3.

I usually reserve the BMW for closer friends or car enthusiasts. And even then, I just say that I drive a BMW. If they ask for more, I will them "M3".
I am fancy pants, and earned the ability to purchase mine.

Do you pronounce it "coop" or "coopay"?

I'm curious too.

I've had 4 coupes/convertibles and called all of them 2 door. I drive a 2 door, is my answer.

THIS... Washington State ran into this all the time. I'd be in a 335i catching grief from a chucklehead in a Ram 2500 "POWERWAGON" that easy clocks in at $68-70.

Thus far in the Phoenix area folks seem to give zero shits. They loved the Hellcat, seem to like the M4, and the i3 still just gets looks that seem to say "why?" I understand that look.

As much as I love talking about cars, I hate talking about cars with non-car people. So I'll usually try to keep it short with just "BMW" or "3-series" and if they inquire further I'll carry on to "335" or "E92 335".

I think I've only used "335is" once or twice; this is usually reserved for fellow N54-enthusiasts since the 335is distinction doesn't mean much outside that crowd.

If I'm ever asked this question, which is rare, this is what I say too.

Normal person: BMW
Car person: M3
BMW Person: I'll elaborate further if they ask after the M3 part lol

I say it's a BMW Z4M sports car; if they ask for more I tell them it is a convertible; if it's a motorhead, I tell them about the upgrades.

This is true and very odd. For some non car enthusiasts, a BMW is sitting in a throne next to exotics.

Lol it’s been 15+ years of brand and model dilution, and cheap leases. Who still thinks BMW’s are “next to exotics”?
