I know what's stupid. It's the current ratio of 300k californians being "represented" by 1 member of the state house.

Texas has the second worst ratio at 138k:1

It makes sense in terms of different segments of the population and the varied interests... but it makes no sense at all in terms of the economy. All the different parts need each other to operate.

Just imagine if farmers in midwest lost Chicago. ....oh wait.

The one I can vote for is the end of Daylight Savings. I think it's AB807?

I think this would be good to end as well. Other countries don't use this. It's one of those old US-only things that make no sense in the modern world.

This referendum is one dumb idea, and you can quote me on that.

I always thought i was weird that the midwest is actually in the mid east of the US... but then I rarely stop in the flyover states anyway.

Not true, I lived in Germany for the past 4 years and they/we did it every year I was there. I’ve lived in one US state (Hawaii) that didn’t participate and it was great.
But I do agree it needs to go.

From what I read, an end to DST is still a ways off. 2/3 majority vote on a follow-on bill, THEN approval from the Feds. How difficult will it be for Micro$oft to release ANOTHER critical patch to address another new time zone????

Interesting... I guess I tend to fly to Asia for business or vacation so I haven't seen it before. People get super confused when they call the US and its an hour off.

If you look into the program, DST saves a significant amount of energy. What's the reason that compels us to forfeit this energy savings?

I believe he is referring to the referendum on breaking CA into 3 states, not the DST issue.

Maybe. There seems to be variations in the so-called savings, not to mention some health risks for the recurring time changes, not to mention what PITA it is to change so many time pieces. Overall, the cost savings seem very small to non-existent:

Re DST. We live in such a 24/7 world these days that the energy cost savings seems moot. Office lights go on as soon as someone gets there regardless of the position of the sun

Saving energy might seem moot to you, but if it actually saves energy, why not support it? Because you have to take 20 seconds twice a year to adjust a clock?

Changing clocks is a non-starter for me personally.

Work is an issue because some of our devices are time-sensitive and it requires a manual adjustment that has legal ramifications

On a personal issue, the bi-annual adjustment can really screw with my diabetes control

Dump day light savings, keep California as is please. Once Texas goes blue national elections are over anyway.

Even considering this referendum requires us to make the leap that our votes matter.

I'm happy you only own one time piece. I have 18. As I mentioned, a PITA. And the time change still saves virtually nothing. A total waste of time.

First world problem personified.

Personally I don't happen own anything that doesn't keep itself synced. My watch, cars, computers, and even my bedside alarm clock (repurposed iPhone) keep themselves perfectly accurate with zero effort.
