Generally "first drive" reviews don't tell much of significance. The writers tend to keep their opinions at a minimum. However Motor Trend told it as it is. Very well-written, I agree with most of what he said.

I couldn't get past this sentence "Hey BMW, take a selfie." We have reached peak gimmick.

I hate it's design.
I hated BMW x7 design when it first came out.
Now I have a x7 in the garage.
I think this is the way marketing and human brain work.

LOL same, I remember going to an X7 reveal event and ripping it apart. I’m 100% full of shit. I think I’m already coming around on this one.

I have had an E46 coup, E90 m3, M6GC, m235 and i8 in the last couple of years. For me the main reason of getting those cars were their design. And yes, all were superb cars to drive. I was intensely enjoying looking at them from my office window, especially m6gc.
I really can not say any of these new designs, even a m8, is a "real" work of art. I think that's the way that all auto industry go, more mass marketing and no more surprise design.

I'll keep my i8 for now.

seems like a trend these days. They seem to grow on you. Reminds me of the large amount of hate of the M3/4 and then once it came out a lot of those views changed.

Yeah we get conditioned to everything. I think at this point I'm OK with the front of the M3/4 but I'll never get used to the 4-series.

I saw the iX at a UDE event and have definitely gotten more used to it. I still think it's bad design, but pretty soon these are going to be all over the road and we will learn that people who aren't BMW traditionalists see automobiles through a different lens.

I can see this appealing to a very similar demographic as the Tesla Model X.

Garage List
2022 BMW i4 m50  [10.00]
I like that one of the reviewer said after 20 km and more it still showed 96% battery that is a good thing. Hopefully it is more reliable in terms of what you actually get for range and not just like i have in my i3 atm where i can start at 300 km plus range in my garage in the morning but when i arrive at work the guess o meter has dropped to 260 km i do not even have that far to work nor have i even driven it that hard. And when leaving work it even has dropped more down to 230 km because it has been parked and when turned on it shows a different range. That is some proper guessing right there.

So for me with that in mind i hope the i4 will be on the same level later on when it arrives, range is important in the car but what i have learned about the i3 during my 3 years of having it i want range that is accurate and reliable and not all over the place. Having a car telling you that you can actually go those 500 km of actual range.

What? The G8x still gets sh*t on forums, blogs, YT, social, comment sections. The design is hideous and remains hideous.

Problem with BMW new EV's, not only do they have the beaverteeth. Their specs are terrible compared to the competition.

I like it just fine, thank you very much.

I will never understand the rationale both on here and pro car reviewers telling you how a car looks. Imagine people did that with dating. "No dude, she's got a big nose, don't go for her"

I love the new M3. I love how it feels when I drive it, and how it makes me feel. It's backordered at least 6 months, so BMW must be doing something right.

This iX looks like a futuristic X5, which is what it is. I'd love to add one to the stable when the time comes. Aside from the 2 GC, I can't think of a bad car they've recently made, based in on they drive. Not look.

The biggest problem for me, other than the looks is that the non-Tesla EV's still suck in one big area: Charging. The Electrify America charging network is pitiful when it comes to reliability and service. Too many times are chargers broken or not in service, and if they are, they won't provide a consistent charge. Superchargers are much better integrated, easier to use, and more reliable, and because its built into the ecosystem provide many useful features such as being able to get live updates on open stalls, how busy the station is, as well as integration into the car's main navigation for the fastest route with charging.

For a daily sedan I probably wouldn't find this an issue, but for an SUV that would be used for road trips it would prove more difficult. Even my most recent trip to the beach 3-hours from my house would prove difficult, as our friends with an E-Tron who were meeting us there had to reroute twice after two failed EA chargers at different locations.

Is the Tesla network that much more reliable? I cannot believe that they are, but I don't know anyone that uses the supercharger network on a weekly basis to see if they have the issues the other networks do. Personally, I think a PHEV makes more sense for a car to take on road trips, since you don't need to charge it if you don't want to.

...you do realize that there are DC fast chargers out there that aren't Electrify America, right? They aren't even the biggest network of DC fast chargers.

Here's a zoomed out map of DC fast charging locations excluding those from Electrify America and Electrify Canada. Still plenty...

Teslas do have a leg up in that they can use any Tesla charger as well as any non-Tesla charger, whereas non-Teslas can use everything except Tesla chargers (which is changing soon), but there are still so many chargers out there that many people don't realize exist, and every charging network out there is expanding as much as they can. As EVs and PHEVs become even more commonplace than they are, the charging network will grow to suit.

For DC charging in the OC, and Bethany area, Electrify America is pretty much the only choice for fast DC charging outside of Tesla (who has 4 chargers in the area), and the closest one is either in Annapolis or Wilmington, none actually in Bethany or OC area. All chargers there are low output shopping mall chargers or hotel only chargers that are slow and made for overnight use.
