is BMW getting a bit too ricey ? blingy ?

so disclaimer, not bashing ricers, modders, blingers or whatever
and I know there is a massive controversy about "badges" that are not for the correct car let's just put all thoes things asside.

I also believe you are free to decorate your car (make it your own) or debadge etc as you see fit.

But I'm wondering on looking at things readily available from BMW. I mean, I can get M badges, License plate holders with //m or BMW, LED door projectors with the //m or bmw, stem caps again //m, now wheel spinners, aka Rolls Royce right way up and I think there's a whole lot in between

Not counting all the stickers/stripes/badges/grill things you can get off amazon.

Just wondering is BMW no longer a purist brand (from the main dealer POV) has BMW realised regardless of the "purists" there is money to be made on these aftermarket accessories.

The right way up floating hub caps, OK Rolls does this, but do you really want that, is not not too ricey (ps I just bought a set)

play nice, not be rude, I'm just asking the question

If you don't like them that's fine, don't trash those who may have a fetish for //m paraphalia

I dont think BMW has lost its way. The right up wheel anti-spinners, are a little gimmicky, but the rest, I think people would rather have some BMW valve stem caps, than black plastic ones. Im not sure thats considered ricey. The door logo projectors are nice to light puddles when youre getting in and out of the car. I have puddle lights and door projectors on my 21 Accord Touring. Its nice to see if youre going to step in a big puddle before you get into the car. The stickers, are to each his own. People enjoy debadging the car. I like badges. I dont like any color of badge besides the blue/ white BMW propeller. I like the color contrast.

For me, they’ve jumped the shark, again. Perhaps they will find their way back, but I think they have two major issues: (1) target market has shifted to China and maybe India so their tastes will dictate our cars, and (2) the transition to electric makes investment decisions very hard, while necessitating leading a styling transition to whatever their electrics will look like (not electrified existing models).

As a buyer, they have pushed into too high a price range, without making the needed reliability improvements. There are lots of exciting and interesting and luxurious and reliable vehicles. BMW non-M is really none of those things, and the Ms are just not fun anymore for me (I had 2 M3 and 1 M5 in the last 5 years).

So for me it isn’t about being ricey, but I get the OP’s point. And I also know that BMW is doing well, so they clearly are smart enough not to cater to my tastes!

Same here I think the black digit logo propeller is a mistake and my blue /white ones will stay in place, I have de chromed the side intake surrounds and rear badge, also replaced the exhaust finishers with carbon effect ones to take away the 'flashiness' of the old.

I think BMW is over deploying the M brand. Treating it like an intermediate trim option option which I don't like at all. But this is what happens when you have a conference room full of accountants and marketers charged with increasing sales. Don't hate the playa, hate the game.

You're only talking about decals? That's nothing. I was more thinking about the ultra-contrived front dams, splitters, intakes, etc that has been going on for quite some time now. It's insane.

Well to each his own but what I don't get are those grill insert stripes. They've been around for a while now but I swear every Bimmer I see nowadays has them.

most companies are getting gimmicky. bigger wings, more vents (usually not functional), pops and burbles, pointless stuff in the menus (drift analyzer). Bringing back old names to sell a product (supra, mustang mach-e).

Porsche and Audi are more compelling for me these days. MB has nice cosmetics but bottom of the barrel delivered quality and medium term reliability.

BMW is solid, my wife loves her X3. I'm thinking a VAG product for my next vehicle.

Yes very much so. BMW spent decades building its brand and it's name, and now they are in the business of REALLY leveraging that brand and selling that brand to consumers.

That's not to say BMWs are all marketing without any substance, not even close. But BMW is definitely very much in the business of selling its image.

Now Mercedes on the other hand are straight up shameless. They've put their once renowned three-pointed star and AMG badge on every little turd. There was a time when you knew the person driving a Merc meant business. Not the case anymore.

My loaner M440 had the "M drift analyzer". Contemplated returning the loaner with records set but thought better of it, lol. Got too good of a thing going with my service department, don't wanna fuck it up.

Fast-n-furious franchise is 20 yrs old. It had an impact on what car enthusiasts with means want to buy.

We're all just a bunch of old farts.

I must have always been one though because the "rice-y" image never really appealed to me. I like sophisticated performance and understated flair.

Instead we're getting loud and obnoxious vibes. Just look at the G80 marketing campaign. I don't think there's enough acid or angel dust in the world to make sense of this shit.

The worst part for me personally is the watering down of the M brand
It used to be some what special and exclusive to drive an M car
Not so much right now
