2015 i8 Turbo Replacement

Dropped my car off for its routine service yesterday and recieved a call today that they found a leak in my turbo and will be replacing the entire unit. Thankfully I still have some warranty left but i might recommend people with almost expired warranties have an inspection done before your warranty expires. I'll update this thread when I pick the car up.

had exactly the same done under warranty. Apparently newer units are better quality.

HOWEVER, one of the guys at the Rovaniemi Pure Impulse event last year had his car self combust after the same was done to his car!

What about an upgraded hybrid turbo?
Would be nice to get a few extra ponies out of the 3cyl.

Is there an 'excuse' you can use to take it to dealer for an inspection? That that day specifically look at the turbo? Like what would the symptoms of turbo leak be that we can say 'oh the car is doing that' so they can direct their attentions towards the turbo?

Leak in or around the turbo, very hot components...
Maybe a burning oil smell after driving or when you lifted the engine cover out of curiosity for a look.

Interesting coincidence.
My 2014 Pure Impulse showed a warning (translated) "Reduced power - Further drive possible, - Visit service center" " three weeks ago.
Next time (I don't often use it) the yellow engine icon was constantly on.
The readout at service center showed defective Turbo-Valve and the unit was also completely replaced.
My warranty is over since 2'500km but to my great pleasure and astonishment it was solved 100% ex gratia though (except fluids).
Chief mechanic said I should not be shy, problem should not happen again. I don't know if it means something with improved parts. Car drives well again.

My 2014 had a new engine last year. Would that be a new turbo as well or would they have used the old one?

That's why I loved the unmistakable VDO Oil-Temp gauge in my Z3.
But since then I have at least a good feeling for the necessary time.
To bad there is no overview page showing this and other important values.
