Well, X7 M50i towing capacity = 5,950 lbs, iX50 towing capacity = 5,000 lbs. So thanks for verifying that Matt!

I think tires are the difference here. The iX has 22" summer tires, not sure what the x7 had, but it seemed to hook up better. On grass it's all about traction.

All I could think was I would not want to be the one who ended up with the iX after he returns it. Not sure what kind of stress that puts on the vehicle but it can't be good.

not to mention the X7 weight > 5000 lbs and the iX weight < 5,950 lbs

I suppose it's the same idea as most of his videos (e.g. this car has a 1/4 time of x, that car has a 1/4 time of y, let's see which one wins a 1/4 mile drag race!)

With the factory tow hitch it's 7,500 lbs max towing. Looks like he's using a tow hook but the car is still strong enough for 7500

BMW lists the Alpina X7 trim level (612 bhp) with a 7,500 lb towing capacity, but the M50i is rated at 5,950 lbs....

Yeah there's definitely a ton of misinformation or unclear specs from BMW. There was a big post on this. It's solely factory tow hitch vs. no factory hitch that accounts for the difference. BMW won't rate aftermarket hitches with high enough tongue ratings to achieve 7,500 rating according to BMW genius when I called with this question

Yet another example of the nonsense CarWow offers up. Click-bait and nothing more.

The towing capacity of the iX was definitely exceeded, for a brief time....

This didn't do any damage or excessive wear on any of the cars. That's exactly why they do it on grass, and not pavement.
