There are 2-3 threads on the official AMG boards (not publicly accessible) where all of the owners are posting their experiences. All of them basically had the same experience. Drive away from dealer, 30-50 miles later the engine either cuts or goes into limp mode and they pull to the side of the road with all the dash warning lights on. The cars won't start and they have to be towed back to the dealership. There have been cases in the US and other countries of the differential warning coming up and requiring a tow back, without any fix for that one. Others are reporting LOUD creaks and pops while driving coming from different areas including the dashboard, the transmission tunnel, the rear cross-brace, etc. Pano roofs are flexing. Taillights are apparently cracking from the flex in the trunk-lid caused by the down-force generated by the spoiler, etc.

Owners aren't going to mbworld or making a big fuss in hopes its all resolved soon. But who wants to shell out $140-150k on a car that goes straight into the shop?

Thanks, Carac. I'd sure love to read some of the posts.

Sounds like the problems BMW had with the iDrive in the early 745s. The iDrives froze and the cars were all eventually junked.

I was close to jumping on an Edition 1 - thank goodness it didn't come together.

I didn't have a chance to experience what you've mentioned. I turned the order down based on altogether different reasons from the test drive. However, the information you shared makes me feel that I made the right decision and in a version of your words "Dodged a Huge Bullet"(I had a harrowing experience similar to what you described with a BMW 7 Series a while back. Luckily, both the wife and I came out unscathed. Also, BMW promptly took the vehicle back. Thanks for sharing the info. Carac!
