i8 hidden mode?

Is there a hidden mode to the display?

I find the info on display is .. erh.. very sparse.

Being a nerd I'd love to see coolant temp, revs, gear, oil temp, battery voltage bla bla.

Dont need it but it would be fun.

Most BMW's have a secret mode to activate this.. anyone know how to do this?

BMW being BMW prefer to dictate what information you can see unfortunately - despite having a full-screen instrument display.

The car has access to a whole load of data that it won't show but there must be a mode that will show some of it. I looked on my old 745 some time ago and could get all sorts up, but it was an involved process and returned to normal after a power-down.

Unless someone hacks the software, an option is an OBD connection and an app on your phone - you can get real-time information such as voltages, temps etc...

Frankly, most cars these days show temps in the middle of the optimum range all the time, anyway. Either because temps are managed so well or because the gauges are made to not ever worry the driver. Either way, I find them useless.

The only cars where I’ve ever seen them move is in American “new muscle” cars. Presumably, because the engine tech on those is generally the same as in the 50s...

There is a hidden menu. It is mentioned in another thread somewhere but from what i remember it allows you to reset the sevice indicator (can't recall getting much additional meaningful info regarding temperatures etc). I will try to find the thread later when I have a bit more time.

Here you go:

Found out how to reset the service required text and light.
1) Don’t depress any pedal.
2) Press Stop/ Start button.
3) Press and hold trip meter button in the lower left corner of the instrument cluster for approximately 10 seconds until the first service point text appears on the instrument cluster.
4) Repeatedly press the button until the service point appears that you want to reset.
5) The text will display “reset possible “
6) Press the button again for 3 seconds and the display will show “reset ?”
7) Press the button a third time for 3 seconds and the display will show “reset in progress “ and a progress bar will appear.
8) The Service light and text in edrive has been successfully reset.
9) Press the stop/ start button to turn off readiness and your done.
