Any new info for a laser light retro fit for US owners? Since the 16' has them now

What color did you decide upon for this one? Did you stay with Sophisto Grey or did you move to a different color?

Stayed with same color.

So only difference will be the year and laserlights.

I know I am a fool. :-)

Was at my dealer's on Tuesday and saw a 2016 i8 with the laser lights. It was being PDI'd and the lights were on. Big shape difference and the lights appeared both more intense and very white. The lights on my 2014 i8 seem dull and yellow in comparison.

By chance, did your dealer have any laser light info. pertaining to cost and retrofit for pre-'16 models?

If safety enhancement is a driving priority, than the laser light option is worth considering.

Regarding the color choice, the i8 attracts enough unwarranted attention as it is. If I were to trade into a '16 i8, I would probably end up with the same color, Sophisto Grey, just to, pardon the pun, stay under the radar.

Unless US spec is different to Europe you will only see the lasers at night when the camera says so and over 40 mph. Borrowed a November 2015 i8 for the day and was quite impressed with the standard LED lights on full beam. Auto switching was quick too

Laser lights I think have 3 lights Low beam Hi beam and Laser

Sadly, no. My service advisor is checking on that and the key for me.

Seems my SA doesn't have any updates on the laser light and is in the Dark as well. Hopefully, your advisor is more resourceful in coming up with the retrofit information.

Just for grins, just called the BMWi concierge in NJ.

They are literally clueless about the i8 display key.

They are also clueless about currently available BMW products, as the guy just told me laserlights are not yet available in the US.

I told him that could not be the case - as I am taking delivery of my '16 with laserlights next week.

On my soapbox - I think BMW is getting too big for their own good. Their corporate people don't even know what they currently sell, let alone info about highly-anticipated features, etc that have been openly discussed for two years now.

Very sad.

I wonder if the head guy back in Germany and his board knows just how bad it makes them look that information does not flow freely within their company!!!!

If BMW employees don't even know, I don't feel so bad that we as customers don't know, either.

Although I continue to have much higher communication expectations for a global company like BMW.

Off my soapbox now.

I just had the same experience. A friend works for BMW in New Jersey in a high position. He texted me today. I texted back and asked if the key and laser lights could be retrofitted. He told me yes. When I asked prices he said the lasers weren't available in the U.S. yet. I sent him the partial Monroney I took two days ago when I saw a 2016 i8 at the dealer with the laser lights. He said he didn't believe it and then asked me to send him the VIN. He said he thought the car wasn't for sale. But it is.

Bizarre. BMW USA knows less about the i8 than we do.

Typical.
The dealership here was in the dark, as well. Pun intended.

I swear the dealerships never know a damn thing lol. They have tried to tell me so many not true things or have not known what the heck I was talking about when I asked questions they should know...Like how do I know these things about the car / cars & I don't even work for the company. Why don't you all know these things??

In some cases they NEVER EVEN HEARD of some of it. A guy at my dealership told me he didn't even know there was a screen key EVER & never knew about laser lights yet he is the tech Specialist there.....yeah.....alright then...nice.

What did your dealer charge you for parts and labor for the retrofit?
