Laser lights on '16

Has anyone taken delivery of one yet?

Mine coming next week.

Just wondered thoughts on those who may already have it and real functionality.

I work at a BMW dealership and we got an i8 in last week that has the Laserlights. Honestly, you cant really see a huge difference just by looking at the headlights when they are on. You would need to take the car out on to a dark, rural road to really see what they are all about. They also have these yellow warning triangles inside the light housings that say not to look into the light. This particular i8 also has the new interior color, Amido Black, which I think is really cool and is kind of a combination of black and light grey with blue stitching.

Does this one have the display key? From the last picture, it looks like the little tray in front of the gear selector is deeper, as if it were setup to hold and charge the key.

I removed the rubber liner in my 15 to see if there was anything underneath. There isn't. The liner pops in and out pretty easily.

My guess is that if we can retro fit the smart key we will not have the wireless charging but instead have to charge it via the mini USB port on the key.

I'm confident that the wireless charging will be available

The key had quality problems in 2014 so wasn't supplied thats what a manager said when he was showing me the 7 series, so I would hope the wiring loom is ready.

I think remote control of the car out of parking spaces will have to wait for the face lift, this would remove the anxiety of always having to find a suitable parking slot

Hadn't heard about the remote control option. Is that really expected to come in a future model? Would be a nice feature to remove parking anxiety.

Is that yellow sticker INSIDE the housing like you can't take it off? I don't like that at all if so.

Also it kind of..Does not look that good with the lights off. Not as good as the real european ones. I think non laser is the way to go but maybe I need to see more pics IDK.

Yes it is inside the housing. And its not a sticker. It a plastic triangle piece mounted inside.

The difference is the blue accent line you see on the first picture. Supposedly this blue line in the housing represents Laserlight technology.

Hadn't seen that before. Very cool and extremely helpful it would seem for the i8. Thanks for sharing.

Well no I don't think its the blue line that is it, it also adds the actual 2nd smaller curved light in there that we don't have. Question is what do they look like on. Because so far off I'm not feeling them to much. Way different than the euro spa & those yellow triangles are visible as heck.

May be the US Spec lasers can be switched on at rest in the EU they only come on at speed so little chance of close proximity eye contact.

Haven't seen the warning labels but I quite like the idea - mine is due in about a week so I'll post pics.

With some of you US owners knowing people who can do coding ever thought about installing the more powerful EU lights ?

Sorry guys my mistake. Amido black is not a new color. It has always been available with the Giga world.

Just took delivery of my '16 this afternoon with laserlights.

There are no new switches.

The way they work - Above 40 mph, if you switch on high beams, they kick in

Is the difference markedly discernible with the laser Lights to warrant a retrofit based on your experience with the '16?

No. I would not spend the money again.

Caveat: I live in Dallas - flat roads, good visibility, etc. - perhaps if I lived in a place with tons of trees and curvy roads, it would be a totally different story.

I can see what you mean (spent some time shuttling back and forth from Dallas working for Trammell Crow Company).

In the Bay Area, the laser lights would seldom come on since everything is well lit. But if I were living down in Pacifica or Carmel, the laser lights would come in handy driving down the dark and winding coastal roads.

Thanks for your candid opinion
