Display key fob
Does anyone use this regularly? It's kind of big for a pocket and while great for impressing your friends, it doesn't seem to last very long on its battery.
I assume it will charge on the car usb pretty slowly. It's a shame the i8 doesn't have the wireless charging pocket like the 7 &8 series have as an option. Though again how fast it charges on a wireless charger I don't know? |

I use it all the time, never used the other key. Have a silicone sleeve for it and a display protector so it's pretty rugged. Never had an issue with charging, it holds up for weeks and recharges via IQ in a couple hours. Every other week or so I wireless charge it over night.

I personally do not use it myself, found it to be too clunky and cumbersome. And for some reason or another the climate control feature would not work from the keyfob but would work from the phone only. Did not see much use for it if I was only using the lock/unlock/trunk buttons like the other smaller fob anyways.

At first I thought you must be wrong , but on checking of course you are correct - its only the doors can be locked or unlocked remotely by the look of things . Maybe a remote window facility is not possible for safety reasons ?

The windows have a built in anti trap feature, using the comfort close feature you could still close it from a distance away via the fob and there'd still be the safety issue. Personally I'd rather not know as it'd cause me a lot more anxiety knowing something was left open and not being able to do anything about it!

But in answer to your question, no, I don’t use the key. |

I'm guessing it's not retrofittable/ available on earlier cars - mine's a 2016 with a rather useless ' enhanced usb' plate where your wireless base is. |

I don't think it was even an available option in the USA? I would have picked it if I had seen that option.

For german models wireless charging was introduced with the roadster and is a standard feature named "Telefonie mit Wireless charging"
Whyever it was never available for the Coupe. The option for the Coupe was named "Komforttelefonie mit erweiterter Smartphone-Anbindung" doesn't provide wireless charging. Interestingly you can still configure the i8 on bmwusa.com But I haven't found a description of wireless charging and it's also not listed under Standard features. |
