Thumbs down A quick note for anyone who's ever considered living in Australia

Been surfin auto websites, checking prices,
Thought this'd be of interest to anyone,
specifically those considering/already living in Australia.

I'd be interested to see how the rest of the world compares?

Prices are in Australian Dollar (0.92USD)
Australia - Queensland (Brisbane, Gold Coast etc)

2010 Audi RS6

Base: $188,359
Goods & Services Tax: $18,836
Luxury Car Tax: $45,005

Dealer Delivery Fees: $5,650
Luxury Car Tax on Dealer delivery fees: $1,695
Registration: $751
CTP: $347
Stamp duty (more tax): $7,737

Total Driveaway:$268,380

This will, by the way, give people insight as to why the guy who's modding his 335i into an M3, is doing what he's doing.

Car prices in australia are, literally, murder...

The total basic cost is the amount the dealer paid for to import and register the vehicle in Singapore. It includes the OMV, custom duty, GST, ARF, registration fees and COE.

You do realize every other country except for the US pays these prices for cars right.

(clearly not, but I wanted to point it out in a condescending manner)

Why does Australia have it in for autos? Its a big country, lots of roads, not many people, average person per mile of highway is the lowest in the world, or close. Yes, that costs a lot to maintain, but sheesh.

It's not Australia, it's like this pretty everywhere except for the U.S. of A and Canada to a certain extent. Try buying a car in Italy that has an engine with a displacement greater than 2.0L, you'll think the Mafia is running the gorvernment over there. Well it probably is.

Yep prices are extremely high in Aus. For someone to be able to afford a 335i they have to be doing pretty good, anything better and you know they are making a good living.

You and a few others are grossly mistaken.

New Zealand, the tiny country to the right of Australia on the map, does not have this much tax on vehicles.

Example... Audi RS6 @ Australia $268,000 AUD = $347,000New Zealand Dollars

Now lets check New Zealand...
2009 Audi RS6 Sedan, 1000km mileage(basically brand new)

Price?.... $225,000NZD...
LOL???
$122,000 NZ Dollars ($86,000 USD) difference in price between the SAME CAR from New Zealand to Australia.

:happy anim: GO TAXES. GO AUSTRALIA!!!

Base price for a Porsche Cayenne Turbo is $345,000 in China (all import taxes).

My brother-in-law lives in Shanghai and his neighbor has one along with a new BMW X5, which is $180,000.

I don't think nz has any import car tax, or it must be very low.
Hopefully Australia lowers the taxes because it makes it extremly hard for people to be able to affford a nice house and a car.

Ps house prices are also like 3 times higher than US prices.

I would say most, not all countries excluding the US. Canadians for instance do not pay those prices. Germans as well.

I have a friend in Denmark

He bought a volkswagen Scirocco (2 door coupe).
Except, taxes are so high in denmark, he couldn't afford the model with 4 seats,
so he got the "van" model which is the same car with no rear seats @ half the price.... lol
