Which car for wifey?

My wife's lease ends in December 2021 and we're looking for our next buggy. So in between making fun of me for spending exorbitant amounts of free time on "on that stupid Bimmerblog", she noticed a post by AYounglove10@ (thanks for that btw --- AWESOME car) detailing his new G82. She fell in love instantly and actually love the new kidney grille.

We've (read: I've -- as my wife is pretty amenable to any car that is safe and aesthetically pleasing) been searching for a while, but her lease isn't up until December, but her 2019 430i has less than 15K miles and we think with the current used car market/chip shortage, we may be able to make a deal that works selling her car a few months before lease end.

Either way, we're looking at doing a custom order on either a BMW or a Porsche. We currently have an X5MC as our baby hauler/my DD, so we could make do with an M4 or M3 as the secondary car that in a pinch could carry Me, Mrs. Malibu and Baby-bu if absolutely necessary. The dilemma is while BMWFS has great lease rates, she's sort of keen on a new 911 (Targa 4) and I'm slightly partial to the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid (the PHEV tax credit and accelerated depreciation more than make up for the cost difference on a Porsche lease/purchase). The 911 GT3 is a recent addition and is probably unrealistic, but wifey gave it the go ahead so if we can (a) get an allocation and (b) not pay $30K above MSRP I'd do it for her in a heartbeat.

That said said I'd like to hear the collective hive mind's opinion on what to do:

1.) M4C - Alpine/Frozen White Metallic (approx. MSRP: $82,000)
2.) M8C - MBB/Alpine (approx MSRP: $135,500)
3.) M3C - Portimao Blue (approx. MSRP: $80,000)
4.) Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid - (approx. MSRP: $106,500 -- not including $6,712 tax credit)
5.) Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid - (approx. MSRP: $130,000 -- not including $6,712 tax credit)
6.) Porsche 911 [exact model unsure] - (approx. MSRP: $140,000 - $185,000)
7.) Porsche 911 GT3 - (approx. MSRP $186K)

Given the diversity of car ownership on these forums, I'm not limited to those named above but I would like to stay in cars made in Deutschland.

Go!

Interesting flex. This is a wide array of cars...

But if you don't need something to haul things around, I think it's quite obvious the answer would be a decently appointed 911. (Seems you edited out the GT3 option since I wrote this)

Reason for the question is two-fold: (1) we want something fun, but can't afford a Ferrari or justify the stigma (right word?) of say an Aston or McClaren and (2) we work hard and want a toy and lots of other wonderful hard working folks on here have lots amazing experiences with a wide array of cars. If I can't ask the question here, where can I ask? I've always found the community here to be persnickety but fair, funny and informative.

I'd owned a couple of BMWs and lurked here for a while before really getting involved and the wealth of info on everything from Money Factors, to brokers, to how to click the lock button three times to remote start the car in lieu of the app...utterly invaluable.

Not sure if I'm interpreting your tone correctly and my crazy pills apparently took the day off, so if you weren't going there, I'm not either.

Thumbs up

I say go for the wildest/least practical car (GT3) if possible. But reminder, I haven't driven one, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I know most people will vote for the GT3, but keep in mind that this new generation (based on reviews) seems to be more catered to being MORE of a track capable street car, in other words less daily-able.

911 is the perfect daily, really... The GT3 is a bit stiff (and crazy) for the street. One of the M cars if you want to spend less. Cayenne is good too, but you already have an SUV.

911 Targa, new one is gorgeous, just the right mix of sport and comfort in a gorgeous/timeless package. Apparently Targa's also hold their resale best of the regular 911 range (excluding GT cars).

Ha, if you actually were able to pull off spousal approval for a GT3 then you need to follow through. Thank me later

Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid
GT-3 amazing, but nowhere close to a DD
Or do as my neighbor did....buy one that appreciates instead of depreciates...

I have no idea why you're cross shopping a GT3 and a Cayenne Hybrid but I voted Targa since its probably the best compromise.

Fine line between appreciate and depreciate based on miles driven there... But that's more of a weekend car than a daily with modern tech, features, and comfort.

Ferrari FF or 911. GT3 is a great car but prob not something you want to drive all the time everywhere. Also depends if you have an extra SUV or truck for daily stuff.

The new 392 wrangler is badass. Range Rover SVR is a lot of fun, sounds great, and spacious/luxurious.

GTS Targa or C4S Targa. The GT3, based on what I’ve read, is incredibly stiff for daily driving which may be a problem if you have roads in really poor condition where you live.

Wish I had the money to entertain this question myself. 911 targa no question. Beautiful car, great drive, and you can't beat a targa top

If your wife doesn't care too much about being the fastest, Targa all the way.

992 Turbo? Comfortable, fast, fun, still feels like a 911. If you guys already have the big family SUV I'd lean more towards an M3/M4/911 rather than another big SUV. You won't get a GT3 @ MSRP anytime soon so I'd rule that off the table.

Mine gets nothing new because she just drives them. She does not even avoid potholes so if i could get here an MRAP it would work out great.
