Cool! Maybe my CS will go up like Rolex. 10 year old watches selling over brand new retail. Why? Mostly the wait time for new ones. And you guys think we all paid too much. Lol.

P.S. most boring car forum thread ever.....

I guess the obvious thing is to find out who builds equipment for these foundries and what commodities (if anything strange) goes into this on the manufacturing side.

As I gather the existing guys cant produce more than they can anyway, and they will be investing into extra capacities but someone builds all this equipment. But sounds complicated.

All these processes are highly automated. There are ton of videos on YouTube that shows glances of these production lines and you can see many robots and equipment being used. Maybe we should start there…

P.S. someone said this is the most boring thread in a car forum ever! I respectfully disagree! We started with news of BMW component shortage and production delays, then analyzed the root cause, then learned about automotive electronics supply chain and semiconductor industry and now are discussing investment options if this is boring to you I don't know what to say! The sky is truly the limit…

Fair, but Volvo has BMW's equivalent of auto pilot still optionable even on the XC40, so that now has me considering Volvo instead of BMW.

Good information, thanks. I noticed the Z4 sDrive30 and M40 are not taking these hits. Could the Z4 be classed as a "4 Series" or am I misstaken?

Do you have a link to this bulletin so I can direct my dealer to it? I'm question as by the sounds of this, I'm due some credit.

Thanks

Sure, but it's a Volvo, and you'll be disappointed with the drive quality every day.

There is always the Q5… I really don't want to go down that path… but it's my alternative if I end up not being able to get the X3 I want.

Not just impacting car manufacturers. I ordered a refrigerator in October. It was delivered last week in April. Had been using a dorm room model since it broke last October. If you're thinking of replacing appliances, better plan for this. And have a plan B in case an existing unit fails.

BMWCCA1,

If the bulletin is dated 5/6/21, does this mean that cars produced before that date will have the usual standard specs?

My M2C was produced 4/29 and went into "final quality check" on 4/30, where it remains.

Many thanks for the info!

If you're due a credit it will show on the MSRP.

Likewise, if the car was built before these items were removed, it will show in the MSRP report even pre-production. What that shows is how it will be built.

It was a DCSnet message to all dealers and salespeople dated 5/6 with an attached "grid" which I condensed in my post. If a car is on-order and in conflict with these restrictions, it will be listed as Status 105 whether it is in May or June production. Those 105 cars will be modified, dealers notified, and their status updated—if not already, then within days.

So they aren't making anymore 2021 X7 40i with M-Sport?

This is 110% confirmed?

Sadly, BMW still has not put out any official statement, beyond the MINI line being shut down. But yes, X7 40i M-sport down for rest of MY2021. maybe all of 40i. Maybe entire plant.

I mean wtf.....they need to either make a statement or get building. People don't want to sit here and wait to pay $90k for a truck that they may not be able to have built. Pretty sure Mercedes or Land Rover won't have issues filling my order instead.

You’ll certainly get you custom LR in Q1 2022. Or later.

MB…well, you talking GLE, right?
Their Tuscaloosa plant may well be under siege too.

I called a few MB dealers today about building a GLE 450. Each told me to expect about 4 months for delivery.

The main point is BMW's communication has been trash on this.

It's been virtually non-existent. No official statement. I'm speculating that the situation is currently very dynamic, and the results haven't been finalized yet. If so, I can understand BMW reluctance to issue a statement.

We're definitely at the point, though, where BMW at the very least needs to make some official statement like "Production of model lines X, Y, Z are currently shut down for an unknown length of time. Similarly, options A,B,C,D, on models X,Y,Z are not available for now."

When they tell you 4 months for a car from a US-based plant - don’t believe them. This is a red flag. Toooo long and they have no clue whatsoever when or how a car will be built and with which options.
Shooting from the hip - “4 months”. Yeah, right.
It’s a trap.
