BMW has just lost another loyal customer. After owning close to 30 BMWs over 25 years, they just don’t get it. I am ready to go electric but not at $100K. Audi and Mercedes have seen failures for their electric vehicles, not because of design or quality, but because of price. Every day there are new options in the market. Before they know it, the market will have moved and they will be trying to get customers back to the brand. Do some customer research BMW! ID4 here I come.

Try using the backseat in the Y before you order. You will be surprised.

I keep punting hoping a manufacturer comes out with an electric car that challenges Tesla. Ford is the first to actually have a challenger imo, good price / decent looks. My hope, the i4 comes out $20k cheaper but based on this pricing, I'm guessing $10-15k cheaper.

I don't want to put a wet blanket on it yet but it has to do 1 thing better than anyone else. Range, luxury, tech, speed, price, etc. but I don't know what that is right now based on the release. Maybe feeling good about the non-conflict cobalt and green initiatives BMW is marketing. My $.02
They teased some more pictures of i4 yesterday and showed off how it looks a bit more: https://electrek.co/2021/03/17/bmw-i...c-sedan-range/

Have to say, it doesn't look as bad as this iX and I might consider getting it. But you are absolutely right! iX/i4 should have something better compared to their competition for people to choose them but so far the range and price estimates are both not competitive at all! The only advantage BMW has (in US at least) is that they are still eligible for the $7,500 federal credit but with the current admin proposing to reinstate $7,000 credit for up to 400,000 vehicles sold, then Tesla becomes much more affordable!

At this point im convinced BMW's designers are secretly working for audi and mercedes with the intent of ruining the brand

I'm with you. Test drove a Tesla Model3 and couldn't find much to fault. Nothing, released or announced, around its price can match it's range/charging rate.

I just saw the iX here in New York on the road, 😒. Tech is great, electric 🔋 is cool! But if you don't have sleek and cool exterior styling it's NOT going to $ell, hence the i3. Dare I say, better styling & marketing by Ford: Mustang 🐎 Mach-E 🔋.

BMW has absolutely lost their minds. I usually don't wish ill on a company but I hope these models crash and burn in sales so they can take their ass back to the drawing board and design a proper looking EV.

Tesla has definitely raise the bar for people's expectation..., I suppose to be fair model X is pretty ugly too, so this is not the biggest sin (and I don't think it looked ugly, just not exciting).

To me it's the range. Like if in the end if it does 4.5 sec 0 to 60 I'm fine, but got to out range Tesla, which I don't think this will (or have to wait for some official test to confirm).

charging has to be less a problem for most day yo day (given you just plug at home overnight then plug at work, unless you live in a city like me...), though I would think still difficult for "one car", even if you only do long road trip twice a year.
Nothing trumps a Tesla Supercharger

That's the biggest advantage besides battery that Tesla has over any other manufacturer

I usually dont do this but... this is the first BMW that genuinely, GENUINELY, doesn't look like a BMW from any angle.

The rear quarter especially gives CRV / Rav4 vibes...

Well I think everyone knew the design already, I cant see the point starting the same discussion again and again.
There was a german comedian in the early 20th cent., he said something like 'everything to say has been said, but not by everyone' .
This applies pretty good here I think, lol.

Looking at the real new information, the technical specs and the price, I am pretty exited. I assume that the specs are pretty near the reality and if the performance is as underrated as for the ix3, this one should be fast ahead of its main competitors, Merc, and Audi. Tesla still is the Benchmark I think.
Finally we had a ix3 in our company for a test drive, it felt much quicker then the claimed 6.8s to 100km/h. We also drove about 200km and still had 170km remaining - not too bad, considering that it was pretty cold and that I floored it several times.

Also looking at the price tag for the IX, it is in the range of a an equivalent X5. Also a similar model X costs about 90k in germany.

The only problem that I have is, that BMW now also announced a new gen EV platform coming in 2025. Considering that the first IX models will be delivered 2022, I would be concerned that it could be already outdated in the near future.
Well, there is maybe an other problem - I don't like how it looks too

Unfortunately I'm currently not in the market for an EV but if I were this would be it. I love it and everything about it. Personally I think the design is great its very progressive looking and still has all the BMW characteristics. I'd absolutely buy it.

I get better noise in my i8, but at least i8 is worth looking at.

Well, that was fun! I mentioned this in a meeting today and it immediately turned into Americans saying what does German comedian mean and Germans saying no one in Germany laughs at your jokes and you Americans just make fun of each other and other countries. So I'll probably hear from HR tomorrow

But I have to look Karl Valentin up, apparently he is considered The Godfather of German comedy.
