Today I switched the iX M60 to "winter mode" and took it for a 90 minute test run. This involved switching the wheels and tires to the Nokians I had left over from my e-tron and installing a new Thule rack. I put my skis on the rack and dropped them off for a seasonal tune up while I was out.

Cruise set to 78mph, did a loop up I15 and back. Temperature mid 40°F. Averaged 36.5kWh/100 miles, or 2.74 miles per kWh for a theoretical range of 287 miles. Not too bad for a big wind baffle on top and slightly above speed limit. Still above EPA!

For reference this is down from 2.88 miles per kWh on my recent Vegas trip.

They're 255/50R20, a touch on the small side but should do fine. They are practically new from the e-tron last year so I couldn't let them go to waste!

Curious to hear how things go in the winter and snow. I'm in CO and considering an iX. Up in the mountains quite a bit. My X7M50i is such a capable vehicle in all conditions, I've been wondering how the iX would do.

I had a violent reaction (not in a good way) the first time I saw an iX at a BMW event in 2021. The car has grown on me since I've seen it many times in person and had the opportunity to drive it for a couple of hours. It's different, for sure.

Lol here we go again with the torrent of "ewwww it's so ugly" comments. Like, yes, we get it...the design is polarising to the max. Sometimes I wonder if the mods choose to feature anything related to IX on the homepage just to stir the pot

I'm honestly more interested in hearing how the iX performs and how comfortable it is etc. I don't like to disparage other people's cars, but I just never warmed up to the iX even after seeing it in person. Can't understand for the life of me why the iX wasn't just an electrified X5 (or X7). I have a feeling the iX will go the way of the i8/i3. But to the OP, if you like it and are satisfied, that's all that matters. And from all accounts, it is a great vehicle to live with.

Good take. It IS a great vehicle. I like the combination of comfort and power, and the 100+ more miles of range over my e-tron, far more than I am comfortable driving in one stretch. If it handles at least as good as my e-tron in the snow last year I'll be happy (and being actually a tad lighter it might fare better).

Do I wish the styling were a little different? Sure. But it grew on me, and my thinking is that when you get to the point where you can rattle off half a dozen current models that have the big grilles it has come to a point where we just need to accept it as a current design trend and get over it or move on.

Haha, yeah I don't know what kind of tree that is but it's been freezing temps overnight and the mountains have 36" of snow now! Clearly not quite winter yet but we are supposed to get rolling snow storms starting later this week.

I'm pretty sure you're gonna have lots of fun with that set up.
Enjoy skiing and winter, and don't forget you will need way more charging in the cold!

Car looks great, sor ! Nice winter wheels, too.

I absolutely love how this car looks. That slim headlights, the vertical kidney and the lower air inlet make the front look like a humanoid robot or a transformer face. Definitely prefer this charismatic, futuristic design language over Tesla's egg-shaped, faceless designs.

From nordic experience, just budget 30% less range and youll be in the ballpark for any EV. You can do little better but losing 30% in proper cold winter is what this is.

And I think in ICE engine, my consumption would always go up also in winter, may be 10-20%.

Pretty straight forward.

Looking good sor! Might I suggest one small change that you possibly didn't think to do when you swapped to the winters... Swap out the center caps with your summer wheels (or buy a second set). Since most cars have their logo in the center it always looks a little odd (to me anyway) when it is not there. Of course if you already thought of it and simply prefer the look with the aftermarket cap, then just ignore this and do whatever you like the look of better.

Maybe? I don't know that there's one correct way to load them, especially when there's tail rocker too it's about the same either way. I've also seen people load individual skis as well and point the bases at the sky so the rocker curves down more aerodynamically.

What I don't want is the long part of the ski hanging off the back and the trunk hitting when I open it, that's been a problem with other cars.

I've looked and looked for 73mm BMW caps. If you know where I can find some let me know. The aftermarket wheels are 66.6mm center bore compatible for firmest on the car but the OEM caps are 57mm and the aftermarket ones are 72-33ish.

oh that sucks. I've been lucky with my aftermarket wheels so far with this. You can always try BMW emblem stickers on the aftermarket caps if it really bothers you.

This reminds me of when Lexus switched to their current more aggressive grill. My then wife was driving an RX-350 at the time and when it was time to trade it in (140,000-ish miles), she refused to allow another RX in the garage because she hated the new look.
