iX M60 vs M8 Competition races by Carwow

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I don't think there was any surprise in the results here but a quick performance comparison of the M8C vs the iX M60 in typical Carwow fashion.

Not even going to bother. M car vs non-M car. I think my M850i GC, on paper, will beat the iX M60 in a 1/4 mile by 0.4 second.

Yup, the ix is about 1000lbs heavier? 710HP would make it more equal for the ix.

I knew it was going to be slower but not that slow. I drove the 50i and it seemed pretty fast when you put your foot down. Power was instant! The difference from a road and an open track I guess.

M8 Comp is probably one of the fastest M cars in BMW's current lineup, so no surprise. It destroys my previous X5M Comp in a drag race, and the iX M60 is faster than the X5M/X6M Comp in many races.

Interesting nevertheless.

Most people aren't accustomed to high torque cars and EV delivery of torque feels relentless. So the butt-dyno feels very different. But even comparing the (not a true M car) M850i's 1/4 mile difference of 0.4seconds is big and essentially multiple car length difference. This is all just straight line and doesn't take corners into play where the weight becomes a bigger factor.

The 8-series is also a heavy car but still has a big advantage over the iX. Either way, the only similarities between these cars is that they have 4-wheels and the same roundel on the hood. Other than that, it's a mango and apple comparison.

I don't even bother with Car Wow YT videos anymore. But if you enjoyed the TopGear comparisons between an Audi and Alpine skier then you may enjoy this as well.

the difference is you can launch the EV at every junction without the cops batting an eyelid and you won't blow up the powertrain

unless of course you want everyone to know you're there then yeah the petrol is the way to go

in a scenario with no cops and unlimited parts petrol V8/V10 ftw!

Well thats expected. Your car weighs 1000lb+ less. But a 11 second SUV is pretty impressive in its own right.. Probably a better race between between your 850i GC and an i4 M50 with similar shapes and HP. Although your car is still no where close to even the i4 M50 5000lb curb weight. But same 0-60. Close to the same 1/4 mi, but the i4 handily will win in the 50-70mph traffic situation with a 2.0 sec vs 2.7 sec clocking.

Surprising/amazing result for a car with similar power/torqe but almost 700 lb heavier.
The secret key here is "instant torqe"☺️

Comparing my previous M6 to current M8 with almost the same platform, M6 (2WD) was more fun to drive while M8 in 2WD is not practical at all because DSC is off and in 4WD is just a rocker. Overal M8 Xdrive is more stable and much quicker while M6 had nice fish tailing and amazing gear shifting…

Won't be carwow without soft limiter complaining. Grateful that the car makes a noise? No, let me complain because it doesn't rev all the way up!

Regardless of the results of this drag race, both cars would cheerfully coexist in any garage for different reasons. Nice!

A 5,800 lb SUV doing the 1/4 mile in 11-12 seconds is incredible. I don't know what people want anymore.

Not sure if anyone here has an issue with the performance of the iX. Just silly to compare these two.

Next up, let's see how the Z4 does against the i7 and tune in next week when we see how the Mazda MX-5 Miata handles a Buffalo snow storm compared to a Ford F-350.

Agreed. The implication of the comparison is that they should be comparable. They are not. A Tesla Model 3 Performance will spank an iX, too.
