I think everything except the extended warranty is pointless, and overpriced. If you can afford to buy a $100k car, you can afford to pay for minor repairs to wheels / door dings etc if they were to occur as they happen, and for less than the cost of this upfront "protection plan".
I didn't buy the extended warranty as there was no negotiation of pricing available, and you don't need to execute purchase until right before the expiration of the 4yr/50k warranty |

I don't usually buy glass coverage on my autos as you can DIY small glass chips. I have only had a deep crack once in two decades of driving that required a windshield replacement and that was $600.
I assume the iX windshield will have to be special-ordered and cost a lot. My auto insurance offers no deductible glass coverage on my iX for $66/year. Check your auto insurer. I would wait on the BMW extended warranty. If people are reporting a lot of issues in 2-3 years get the extended coverage. I only buy warranties from the car manufacturer. 3rd party insurers are a crapshoot. Maybe they pay. Maybe not. |

I wouldn’t be so concerned about glass protection. Most insurance policies offer this as part of your premium and the primary concern, for this vehicle, is that $16k price tag for a new glass & labor for the roof.

So on ICE BMW’s, the first 3 years of maintenance is included in the price if I recall correctly. What is the maintenance schedule for the IX? Does it even need annual maintenance? Does extended maintenance package even make sense here or is it really just about warranty….although isn’t the battery and presumably the motor warranties for 8 years/100k?

I do see in the app that it is already recommending brake fluid maintenance and a "vehicle check" in 24 months from purchase. |

You don't need the extended maintenance package on our iX's lol. No oil changes, brake pads will last 150k miles if you aren't tracking the car and drive in B. Only things you need to change is Brake Fluid every 2-3 years, "Vehicle Check" every 2 years (optional), and tires (not included anyways).
Battery warranty is separate. The powertrain generally won't have any issues. Extended warranty for EVs honestly only for anything weird like air suspension or electronic gremlins (LOTS, read the forum), so probably not worth it. The other ones are up to you but honestly unnecessary and overpriced. You can get ceramic coating cheaper or PPF if you really care. |

I talked with my insurance agent about items including glass, and we decided that adding the $24/year for no deductible for glass made sense. Given the price of the car, she was very surprised that the iX Xdrive50 will only cost $300 more than my 2011 Lexus RX450h does currently. The car is currently at the Baltimore VDC, and due at the dealer this Friday. |
