Regarding the iX, what turns me off is not the exterior, but rather the Tesla-inspired interior, so I'm looking forward to seeing it in person before I judge it too harshly, which was also my first reaction when I saw the pictures. If there's anything I've learned from reading the comments pre and post release of the G80 is that pictures don't make it justice, so I hope I'll change my opinion once I get to experience the iX. I'm also considering the Audi Q4 anyway, but if that one drives like the big ass eTron, it'll be a hard pass for me, since that one feels like if you were driving a boat, not a car.

Just saw one today at the UDE at Metlife Stadium. Quite the looker in Ruby Red (?) and with the tartufo interior. Seats look awesome, and the leather dash is nice too. I noticed it was embossed with an olive branch on the passenger side and the rep told me it apparently signified the natural dyes that were used on the leather.
Sensor array up front (snout) is pretty huge, but it feels interesting. The self healing material almost felt like a TPU screen protector. Door handles were a bit odd and satiny. Digital KeyCard was white, not black like my X5 one - dunno if that's anything new. We started chatting about autonomous capabilities and the rep started to share but as soon as I asked how much further it was beyond DAP/ETJA, he refused to talk about it any more beyond acknowledging it was 'further.' All in all, call me intrigued. |

I like driving my xDrive30e on full electric around town but I can see why lack of AWD in places like New England, Chicago, twin cities, … plus only 200mi range made US dealers pass on the iX3 though. BMWNA would sell more (PH)EVs here if it stopped capping usable capacity to 71% on its high voltage batteries just to save money on warranty.

I was able to see it in person as well at the Metlife UDE yesterday. They did a closed room preview just like they did last year for the G80 M3, and it was even the same guy that was there answering questions.
Overall the design is a bit polarizing but dimension wise it did look smaller than I expect. I would say the same size or a bit larger than a X5 but smaller than a X7. The rear end design is really nice however I am not sure how they are going to get around the DOT rule about not having all the rear lights on a movable tailgate. The front however I wasn't a huge fan of. The fake grill seemed out of place and cheap and the front overall just looked too busy. The guy was telling me that they might be using the IX for the autocross sessions next year to show off the performance however it would depend on if they can sort out a solution to fast charge these in between sessions.
