need help with explaining what the electric machine electronics (EME) means

put the Roadster in for the scheduled brake fluid replacement and when i picked it up they said that "diagnostics" had picked a fault with the above (part number 12365A38143) and also that the radiator lower blind (lying above the from skirt, air duct part number 51747491438).
even though 4 months out of warranty, BMW Australia are covering the parts and labour (approx US $16,000).
any opinions on the role of EME?

not related to lithium battery, which has the 8 year warranty.
i was just hoping to find out what the EME does, as car drives perfectly at the moment
