Not really, Tesla is already mainstream for hundreds of thousands, soon to be millions of people. German automakers hesitate to be serious about electric cars because of drastic changes they have to do in their business models, from workforce to part makers and dealers and post sales maintenance cash flow.

The result is something ridiculous like this ix.

I am sure there is a decent size customer base for this vehicle as BMW has done their market research.

But if I am looking to spend $80-90K on an SUV, I would just walk across the showroom floor and get the X5, easily the best vehicle in its class.

Dios mío! What's going on at BMW?

I think this model, i4 and G8X validate my thesis that some of us (maybe the minority) simply need to go back in time and buy certain models that we found appealing before. There is nothing wrong with that and we are supporting the brand.

I'm not a Tesla fan and I don't like EVs, but at least Tesla designs cars that have some aesthetic appeal. Why make busy designs to sell new technologies?

Few things would please me more than seeing this thing fail on the market.

Long like the X5. A proper BMW inside and out (as far as design is concerned).

The same people hating on this car will get on the bandwagon and go NUTS like people are going gaga over the G8x.

I want the blue one in x50 trim.

My wife is interested coming from an X7. She wants an EV and really likes the interior, but may not be willing to give up the 3rd row (that we never use btw, but that’s another story...). I told her I thought it looked goofy, she said she thought it was cool. She’s had a couple volvos in the past.

Personally I think it looks pretty good from the back and side, not sold on the front yet. Promising package if the price is right, I could see the credit & incentive stars aligning at some point

I think you just summed up exactly what bmw is thinking...

Rewind the clock to 1999 when the x5 launched and the reactions... it would have been insane to imagine someone calling it a proper bmw 20ish years later!

In 2041 is the ix (and what it spawns over the next few generations) going to be the proper bmw as the next thing comes along?

The G8X only gets criticized for its grille and curb weight, nothing else. The design is otherwise classically BMW, has serious performance, handles well, makes nice noises, and is available with a manual option.

The iX on the other hand gets criticized for literally everything by everyone. It does not look anything like a BMW, it won't drive like a BMW, and it's cringey marketing campaign is clearly proof that this car would rather be reading you your texts than being an "ultimate driving machine."

I distinctly remember how everyone unanimously approved of E53 when it was first introduced.

Will the US be receiving the xDrive 40 model? All of the US press seems to be focused on the xDrive 50 model.

Yes BMW still hasn't hit the 200,000 mark so yes they have $7500 to offset their pricing for now
There's also a possibility that the cap for 7500 opens up under this new administration

It's in the works yes and more than likely will pass

Oddly it's going to be $7000 with a max cap of 400,000 cars with no fade out

But any manufacture like BMW that hasn't hit the 200,000 cap still has the original $7500 available

This is going to be dead on the water, I know they want to differentiate themselfs but..... whoever is in charge is not doing very a good job. Heck Ford's Mach-e is 10x better than this, despite calling it a mustang. I know allot of loyal BMW folks would still get it, but still >.>
It reminds me the way Kia used to be, simple and ugly lol, I don't like this direction they're taking

Will respectfully disagree with you; there was visceral hate against the G8x, yes the grill bore the brunt of it but the force of the brunt drowned out all other positives....and I am not talking about all the gaga going on now. I am talking about the hate before the thing ever launched.

Both models will start production at the same time. And the US xDrive40 is definitely real. However, BMW could have decided to make the 40 for Europe first, just to be able to saturate that market with higher volume/smaller battery cars while supply lines are being scaled up.
