No 2023 iX 50?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I just spoke w a SA and he said that BMW has discontinued the iX 50 for 2023. I see on BMW.ca that you can only Build and Price the 40 and M60 as '23s, the 50 remains as a '22.
Does anyone know why, or is this just a Canadian market issue? I would have thought the 50 would be BMWs best seller.

Interesting. With the 40 being unavailable in the US, I wonder if BMW is choosing to limit model available in other regions to focus on availability of the 50 in the US?

That would not be good for resale.

I think they did the something similar with the 2019 refresh of the X5. They sold the V8 X5 50 year 1 and then it became the M50 Year 2.

This is sounding like a discontinued 50 and only offering 40 and 60 if true.

I’m guessing it’s a region thing. They seem to be doing some prioritising of components for different markets and models. E.g. here in the UK, they’ve taken away B&W options for 40s and 50s for new models built now (don’t know if that classes as 2023) but the M60 comes standard with that. In the US it looks like new models have the kick to open boot thing removed (but I think that’s still in non US models).

I would have thought the ix50 would be a gangbuster seller in Canada. The 520km mileage and charging network is perfect for the GTA/Ottawa/Montreal area as well as for Vancouver drivers. The winter driving reports at -30C showed better battery performance compared to the Tesla. My math shows a 7yr break even (!!) compared to my ICE Honda Odyssey. It’s a no brainer purchase for Canada. I really just hope this is a supply chain constraint issue and not a product pivot.

I figured the 50 would be the best seller as it's range is advertised as 200kms more than the 40. For here in Alberta, it's a huge difference with the major cities being so far away, as well as the Rockies. We won't even consider the 40, and the M60 is too expensive, the 50 was sitting in the sweet spot. I hope it comes back for '24.

My dealer here in Alberta said they are sold out for two years. Could that be the reason?

Still available in the UK but with a new mandatory options pack called High Pack with lots of things in it (no B&W though).

You can still order/reserve the 2022 iX 50 on the BMW Canada site or a 2023 40 and 60. I'm not sure you could ever order a 2022 40 or 60 but never looked that close.

My guess is it's model year timing with regional allocation more than anything.

I am currently considering the IX 50 and a Lucid Air. I don't want the 40 and don't need the 60. I like the size of the I4 but the power is too low on the base model and the range is too low on the upgraded model.

I did what was supposed to be a test drive of the IX on Friday but it turned out to be a drive around the vicinity. But I am doing a full fledged test drive of the Lucid on Wednesday and can do a more complete IX test drive at my dealership.

I know I am comparing apples to oranges (SUV to sedan) but that is what my requirements currently turn up. When I bought my current DD, I compared the BMW 530e to a Volvo XC60 8. After test drives in each I preferred the BMW and got it.

For Canada, I think it might be pricing. The ix50 is noticeably cheaper than the M60, or even the ix50 in the USA.

For context, the base iX 50 in Canada is the same price as the Model Y performance.

Our BMW dealer allows for overnight test drives on the iX - Monday only. Ask your SA.

To be honest, I would take anything the SA said with a grain of salt. Unless it is official statement from BMW Canada, or he can show you a memo or announcement to that effect.

Most of the users in this forum know more about the iX than the SA.

And I'm not sure I can take another YouTube review where they point out the washer fluid port, the absence of a "frunk," the self-healing grille and talk about how "controversial" the front view is. Oh, and how gee-whiz is the electrochromic sunroof. Enough. Normal now.

Oh my I hope that isn’t true. I’ve scheduled a test drive for next week and if all goes well I’m ready to push the order through. My SA has even done up the whole order sheet already pending my confirmation but so far no mention of any delays

Quite interesting that nobody tried to actually fill anything through the washer fluid port...
Its close to impossible to pour anything through that extremely narrow hole without overflooding the front of the car.
Lots of patience needed to fill fluid, good thing the tank seem very big so one don't need to do it that often..

Just filled mine over the weekend, and faced the same issue. You have to pour VERY slowly. I agree, there's no way to know its filling up either, I was expecting it to just leak all over when it was full but it did take an entire gallon bottle.

Every modern BMW I have owned has this issue to an extent; they have a filter that prevents the liquid from going in too quick and you have to baby it or risk spilling.

blake6551 is it much worse than in your X5?

Good to know with fore and aft camera washers!
