In that case it doesn't matter since this car will be gone by 2026/7.

The new platform will have been introduced.
- After the first 5 years, the $7,500 applies only to US-made electric vehicles and it applies for another 5 years.

BMW may have to sharpen their pencils on this one. The current Mini w/ a 32kWh battery will only qualify for $4k under the new proposal whilst under the current rules gets $7500.

I have an inquiry in to my dealer about whether I can purchase an M50 this year and pay for it to get the tax credit for 2021, and then take delivery next year when it is available.

I'm going to guess that's going to be a NO. But if it works, I'll sign up! Of course there is no rejecting the car for any reason if this is done.

So i4 does not qualify for $7500 rebate? Why does BMW site say it does?

If you can take delivery this year it qualifies. Of course there is a little technical issue with that.

It doesn't make sense though... I don't think anyone can get this car deliver this yr. I may cancel mine next yr but probably keep my order then wait and see.

As far I'm aware, the i4 is not registered under the EPA at the moment, so it's not even the list of cars eligible for the credit rn.

If somehow it does get added before Dec 31st, the wording specifies that the credit to the date in which the vehicle is "put in operation" so even if you pay for it or sign your loan/lease, not sure it would qualify...

Regardless, that's just my understanding and interpretation so you should refer a tax specialist.

C'mon BMW...get your act in gear and fix the base price so at least the $7,500 tax credit applies. Now, we see this coming from a union US factory....that will be a $12,500 tax credit!
