Active subtle sound vs zero sound on Tesla…

I hardly hear an acceleration sound, is it present to others?

Thoughts?

I guess many drivers would fall asleep driving it for like 10 minutes.

There is audible throttle response for the driver that becomes more noticeable in Sport Mode, but nowhere near the sound of a traditional ICE.

I wish someone would post all the available cluster modes, since I really hate those neon hexagon graphics. I would pay extra for a retro skin that honors classic BMW gauges...

What a conundrum; drive in Sport mode, or kill yourself in comfort mode (after you fall asleep and go off the road); it used to be the other way with ICE

That's just not how it works...at all...many many hundreds of thousands of people put millions of miles on EVs year round, year after year, and falling asleep at the wheel specifically due to the lack of cabin sound isn't even a blip on the radar. You can make Tesla Autopilot jokes all you want, but those are outliers who are just being lazy and irresponsible.

I leased an i3 in 2015-2017 and commuting with it actually had the opposite effect. It was noticeably less fatiguing and left me with MORE energy at the end of my traffic-ridden commute.

The sound you do hear is controlled via settings that can be turned off and most people will likely turn it off completely. They should have offered BMW engine sounds instead of paying Hans Zimmer to create the sounds that he did. I could see some diehards wanting the sound of their favorite BMW engine while driving in sports mode. I personally would find it very funny to hear the "ultimate sewing machine" sounds from my E30's engine while driving an electric car. Add a setting to separately control levels of fake exhaust sound (normal, sport mode, muffler delete, straightpipes) and it would be perfect.

Although some people may miss hearing the sound of their engine revving and exhaust, this is not meant to be a sports car. It is meant to be a quiet, comfortable cruiser. The quieter, the better. I'll take the silence over engine/exhaust sounds played though the speakers any day. I had 2 issues with my X5 that made it much more obvious how much fake sound is used and I really would like to turn it off. First issue was when the sound system completely died like a day after getting the car. No sound whatsoever could be generated... so no music, no fake engine sound, no turn signal click (yes even that is faked)... Second issue was for like a day or so, the sound was distorted coming out of the speakers. This made the fake engine noise very noticeable cause it sounded completely wrong. Sounded like Chewbacca getting angry as I pushed the pedal down.

you'd think that doing this would be a no brainer for BMW to put in place since they switched to fully digital displays... Honestly I don't get why they don't do it. Leave the modern ones there and just give people the choice of using the old ones with less fancy functionality if they want to.

Indeed. And how cool would it be to see a 20k rpm motor tach?

I'm a little disappointed that the ambient lighting is so subdued. No led light strip on the dash? The "I" lineup should be looking like it's 20 years from the future, not behind even the current lineup.

I am also a bit disappointed with the lack of LED strips, especially compared to X5.

Same here maybe the designers felt the strip is so 2020’s
