You can argue about the looks, but from a pure technological or luxury POV the iX beats the X5 easily. From what I can tell (only sat in the iX for a couple minutes) I'd say the passenger space is on par to the X5, just the boot capacity is a bit lower due to the battery/rear electric motor. Yawn! Stop trolling a thread where some folks are actually excited to see a new model close to launching. Go find the million other threads ripping on the grill to have fun.

There are some strange comments in here. The iX is superior to the X5 in almost every conceivable way, unless you must have an internal combustion engine.
The one option that is a must have for me on the iX is the Stonegrey Microfiber/Wool Blend interior. I wish BMW offered premium textile interiors on all their models as I consider it an upgrade over leather. .. and that's why the jury on iX is still deliberating. I am waiting for iX vs X5 sales statistics.

Better looking? sure. I agree that the current X5 is very nice looking and probably better looking in most viewing angles than the iX. You may also prefer the interior look of the X5. That's also ok, it is a nice interior. More features? which ones? I am not saying there aren't any (there are) but I am curious as to which ones you actually care about. The ones I am aware of are either gimmicks that I don't care much for personally or something we don't really use often (i.e. my X5 has heated/cooled cup holders that I don't think are available in the iX, it has peasant blockers in the back, etc.). More space? The iX has noticeably more space in the cabin for occupants, less space in the trunk than an X5. The cabin space is something you and/or passengers can benefit from all the time, but maybe you personally need the extra trunk space and if that's the case, sure the iX is a no go for you. FWIW when I build a new X5 (i.e. nearly fully equipped, with the V8) comparable to the iX I keep building, they end up pretty much at the same pricepoint. It is perhaps not a perfect match in terms of equipment/power but close enough. If you dont care about having V8 levels of power, then it does cost about 10k more than a comparable X5 40i since we can't get a less powerful iX. |

If you add some options (not performance ones) to that X5M to get it more in line with a decent iX, it will be in the 115k USD range. Still not a huge difference and if you are looking for a "snarling, fire breathing beast" then you should indeed go for the X5M. That is not what the iX is trying to be. |

If you haven't seen it in person, you don't know that it is much roomier inside that an X3 or an X5. Last edited by daswartz; 11-12-2021 at 11:50 AM.. |

The interior of my Tesla is OK, but I really do miss the feel and wear of the leather.

However one thing cannot be debated is space. The X5 is smaller and has less space.

Interesting….. the order guide shows it wont be available until 3/22…. Must have problems sourcing the raw material for the paint.

For the difference of the cost between an iX and an equivalent ICE car you can buy for 20 years of gas! No charging time waiting for nothing, no electric connection for the charging station at home (around 2000$ if you current electric panel is designed for, etc.) ...
