Approved Tires list for BMW i4

Hi folks

I stumbled across this today. It looks to be the approved tyres…

Always interesting, but nothing to be constrained by after delivery. None of my three current BMWAG products have "approved" tires on them.

I've always stuck with BMW star-spec'd tires. Nice to see they now have Hankook star-spec'd tires.

I wonder what the difference is with star-spec'd tires on the BEV? Rolling resistance differances that favor range on the star-spec'd vs the normal non-star-spec'd tires?

When OEMs collaborate with tire manufacturers to supply their vehicle programs, the priorities are cost and rolling resistance due to the quest for maximum EPA mileage ratings and avoid costly penalties. The lower rolling resistance will benefit range, but, as with all things, there are tradeoffs, among them noise and harshness of the harder compound utilized. I specifically avoid star spec as those are negative tradeoffs to me. Others may feel differently. I do know, for example, that my 3 Series, now on non-approved but original size Michelin Primacy3 ZP, is a much more pleasing vehicle than it was on the OEM tire choice.

I know on my M4, non-star spec PSS of the same size result in a floatier-feeling at the steering wheel and chassis dynamics, so I stuck with the OE PSS even though they are more expensive.

Maybe they prioritize different characteristics for M vs non-M cars? The compound on the PS4s star-spec is more aggressive than the non-star-spec for the G8x M3/M4 particularly the outer shoulder.

Now I'm anxious to see what tires my i4 M50 will come with on the 19" wheels.

I didn't look at the list.
For a long time I ran Falken on my M3 then my 335i.
Once Falken stopped making the sizes I wanted I switched to Continental DWS.

I ran them on my 335i and also on my X5.

Anyone take any guesses at what winter tires will be available for the i4? It seems like the weight capacity is the biggest issue with my usual trusted brands.

Strongly considering finalizing my order with all seasons just for the first year and switching to the usual summer/winter based on driving feel.

What all season tires are new owners getting? I see the list but most of the tires on the list are summer performance tires.

Thanks

In Canada, for 245/40R19, winter type: Michelin X-Ice Snow (speed rate=H accepted in North America), Bridgestone Blizzac LM005 and Toyo Observe Gsi 6.
