Lightbulb Have You All Noticed This Particularly with ACURA...

That they set off your Radar Detectors (K band) constantly?!
Some other vehicles do it occasionally. But whenever I'm driving and get a K band with no stores around, 95% of the time it's a MDX!
I know that it's the cars Active Lane Assist, Auto Braking, etc. Still annoying!

Have not correlated to a specific brand but TBH I have very few i.e. seriously minimal such hits with the Passport 360 - really impressed with this unit's performance to date. Curious as to which brand you are using?

Its false detections from car avoidance systems and radar detectors inability to filter out false positives

http://www.valentine1.com/Lab/AnsweredAlready8.asp

Most collision avoidance systems use K band radar

I have always run top of the line BEL Detectors for the past 20yrs! They serve me very well.
Currently BEL Pro 500. It's Ka detection (most important around here!) is outstanding.

Used to have Bel many many years ago - I'd say most folk here as I am sure you know go for either Valentine or Escort (Passport) - both are top of the line in respect performance on many metrics - personally prefer the Passport and TBH, imo an upgrade from Bel but bottomline - if whatever unit you chose is actually working well for you then its more than likely doing the job! Have read comments to the effect that the Passport may currently lead against the Val for blocking out 'false' K hits but suspect its a tight call.

I don't get many false alerts but have been considering turning off K-band detection. Has anyone done this? Do police still use K-band?

Been using the Uniden R1 and it's blind spot detection false rejection performance is very livable, my very old Valentine 1 was too noisy on false alerts and didn't want to upgrade.

anyway this Undien is a great little detector and the lttle suction mount even with taking on and off multipile times daily work great.

I thought K-band was very widely used not withstanding Ka-band and that X-band was the only band you could turn off. But, maybe in your area K-band isn't used? and you might be able to obtain the list for radar used in your area.

I'll have to re-check but thought I could turn K-band off (9500ix). K-band is used for road side (unmanned) stationary radar displays to show you how far you are going near me. Otherwise I thought it was almost exclusive Ka local and Laser highway. I'll need to check more closely before turning off I guess (presuming I can do so).

No. I refuse to turn "K" off completely which I can. It is still used in outlying cities around here. What I do like about this particular detector is its "lockout" feature. Since it's GPS enabled, it remembers all signals that I store to not sound. Overall, falsing is a non issue. But these particular vehicles cause it to alert. Thank goodness for Auto Mute feature.

Only thing that I have noticed with Acura, is that somehow someway they are able to get by without a single mainstream product that impresses.

Good point. I owned an Integra GSR back in the 90's. I would not touch an Acura product now.

I just saw one (Type R) at the dealer while I was getting ripped off on my wife's Civic repairs (not the best engineering to require ECU reprogramming to reset TPMS each seasonal wheel change...). Aside from the Tuner-wars styling, is the price! They had just sold it for $39.5k and shamelessly described that as a 'fair deal bargain' since the dealerships near the city were getting 45k for them. I'm guessing they won't have much interest to the BMW crowd, but can't even see people trading in WRX's at those prices.

Lexus makes very solid SUVs, and I think the GS350 is a very solid midsize luxury sedan. It feels far lighter on its feet than a 5 series...

Acura is crap across the board, Infiniti as well.

Nissan has the GTR (as old it is).

Mazda and Honda have a few very decent small cars, far better than the shit VW produces.
