The problem is already solved, however I wanted to share and also see if anyone has ever seen anything like this or has any ideas as to what the problem may have been.

Again, the issue has already been resolved just want to see reactions and to see how astute some of you are.

Looks like the cable was bent, crushed wires, and now you have a short in the line

However, that’s assuming you’re plugged into the cable itself and not a keystone or patch panel

Negative. Look at the image again. How is it possible for blue to be completely looped along with the light blue to be connected to the same pair? This would require three wires inside to make contact with each other other. This was a new pull, fresh connectors crimped, then map tested.

This was a wiremap test for crosstalk.

To those who are familiar network installation, this will should get some really confused replies. I have done this for years and have tested countless cables in my life and I have never seen anything like this. I've also shared with several coworkers and friends who instantly called and wanted to know how this was possible.

Someone had to pull and test. If someone is going to get paid for using common sense, I'll take it.

Anything is possible when you hire an electrician to do network wiring.

Not exactly sure what you mean here. Are you insinuating that I'm an electrician? I'm not an electrician and I was a fiber tech before I came into the position that I'm in now.

I mean, I’ve done network maintenance for about 5 years now, pulled plenty of cable to patch panels and made a ton of cables. Never seen this before. Didn’t know those testers could even display like that lol. But based on what I see, it looks like cables broke out of their individual covers inside the sleeve and are touching. I would’ve just re ran the cable and checked the new one. If that was fine I would’ve tossed the cross one.

Wasn't insinuating that you're an electrician... your OP doesn't even say who was responsible for the wiring, but there have been plenty of nightmare stories about electricians that were hired to do a network job...

Let me save you some time and headache in the event that you ever see this again. Anytime that I pull and have an error 9/10 times it's a crossed pair. I always cut off the connector, repunch/recrimp and retest.

This particular situation, unseen by at least 5 different guys roughly 70 years experience between them, the connector was cut off on the lead end and inspected. The RJ45 connector was faulty. The contact point solder bridged the 3 wires depicted in the display. Repunched, retested and it passed.

That’s an odd one indeed. I always check the connector before re running cables, but usually if the connector was wired wrong it displays which wires were switched. A display like your picture definitely confused me. Thanks for sharing
