Lightbulb Front Door Privacy Glass Static Film

So, even though we really like our front door: 8ft with glass and wrought iron, there has been a privacy concern. The glass has a wavy design which helps, but if you are right up on it looking through, you can see inside. I've just been kinda dealing with it. But I decided to explore some options: spray on frost texture, tinting and static film. The Rustoleum frosted glass spray has great reviews but I was hesitant to spray a nice expensive front door. So I opted to at least try the static film. It was quite the project as I had to meticulously cut it to size and then carefully peel back the film to adhere to the wet glass. The instructions say to place it on glass and then cut. But the film easily slides on the wet glass so that seems counterproductive. At any rate, I'm pleased with the results and the Mrs is happy so that's always a win.

I dunno...not sure about the privacy part here.

I mean, I can CLEARLY see that there is a wreath on the other side of the door, through the supposed privacy static film.

Who is to say that someone on the other side of the door can't clearly see that there is a balding middle aged rum drinker inside??

I figured if any of you all might have windows or even a similar door, this would be a nice option. Looking out for my bros!

Red and husk.

Nice work btw. Also digging those hand-scraped hardwood floors. Solid hardwood or engineered?

Thanks my friend! They are engineered.. Much more durable and moisture resistant.

We did something similar for our large window above our entry door, which was standard glass (visible both directions) when we moved in. I used the rustoleum frost spray on my garage windows, and I am very pleased with the result as well, but I would NEVER use it inside the house. The fumes from that stuff was nuts. I aired out the garage, with a fan, all 3 bay doors open, and the side door open, all day long, and the smell lingered for another day or 2. Really strong fumes.

WOW!! I had read some reviews about the fumes being bad, but Damn! Glad I didn't even try now. Even though many reviews for that spray, showed inside use.

Yeah def...I've seen all those. Just wondering which pattern/brand you got cuz some seem much less opaque than others.

Honest questions:

Do people come up to your front door often?

Can something very valuable be seen through your front door? If so, can you move it?

Just a thought, if people have something worth stealing they will hide it. If I was looking for a house to break into it would be the one with privacy glass all over it and the garage. Logic being there must be something worth hiding that is in plain site that is valuable that the owner wants to hide. The house with the front door open and a big glass door? Probably nothing worth taking and it means the owner is in or around the house.

Not so much the case with privacy glass about hiding valuable assets. In some cases, perhaps mine, I like to get a little frisky in every room of the house and don't want the neighbor kid that acts like Dennis the Menace peeping through my windows.

I install security systems/cameras as a side gig. People are going to break in to whatever they want regardless of reason. More often than not, it isn't done because they believe something valuable is inside but more so because it was an easy location and has the potential for something valuable to be inside. Risk of being caught will trump value of an item.

Not so much concerned with 'break ins'. We live in a nice, monitored neighborhood. I'm generally in and out through out the day too. I have Ring and other video cameras outside and inside. But always remember... Crime and especially theft, is all about "opportunity". If someone has the opportunity to see what's inside and or that no one is inside, feeds that opportunity.

In our case, this was more for privacy from anyone, visitors, neighbors, deliveries. My wife tends to walk around in tiny, comfy stuff. And we also have young children. So again, Privacy is what we wanted.

Yeah i had to have this put on my poolside bathroom door since my builder decided an all glass door on a bathroom was a good idea.

had the same issue when I first bought the house except the previous owners used reflective/mirror tint which really look wrong. I normally see this used on the backside of the house like on the sliding doors but never on the front of the house. I have double doors so the front doors are clear and the doors inside were tinted. I ended up removing it just like you would with car tint and I picked up the kits they sell at Home Depot. looks similar to the one you have. install was basically using a water and a squeegee. pretty easy to do.
