Ambient Lighting on Door Handles and Driver's Footwell Not Working

Hello everyone!

I just recently got a used 2015 i8 and I am simply in love with it. It came stock, and all the lights in the cabin were working as expected, but I noticed one day that the ambient lighting on the door handles on both doors and just the drivers footwell do not work. I did some coding to change the colors of the lights to purple, so I thought that may be the reason, but if I switch to blue/orange/white extended, the same areas area still not working. Has anyone else ran into this problem and/or know what to do to fix this?

Change the code and set the color to black. Problem solved.

I guess that's one way to go about it! If I did all black then I might not be able to see inside my own cabin

Any other suggestions or ideas? Im thinking it may have to do with the wiring or connections rather than the coding. I uploaded my first backup before I coded anything and the doors + driver footwell still did not light up when selecting blue/orange/white extended. I tried to look under the driver's side dash at the connection to the light but the connection was not loose, confirmed it was connected, but no luck. I am unsure how to go about the door lights.

Not aware of anyone else having any issue with this, so the fact that you've played with your coding would suggest that this is the most likely cause of the issue.

This. Just restore the backup.

Ill try to restore the backup from before all the changes and see if after a day or so things work normally again.

Gave the old stock coding a couple days and the LEDs at the door handles and driver side footwell still do not light up. I'm feeling I will just need to send it to BMW at this point to see what can be done.

Did you ever figure this out? Same issue with my 2019 i8 Roadster.

Hey thanks for asking. I decided to bring it into a BMW specialist shop and after taking apart the car they found out that is was a loose connection by the passenger footwell. My memory doesn't serve me well, but I believe that it was something related to the fuse in the fusebox either not being there or it was loose. They eventually reached that conclusion by running diagnostics and realizing that the LINBUS was not responding as expected. I am not expert in these things but that is what I recall from then.

To save you some money and time at first, I'd recommend you take off the fuse panel and see which fuse is related to the interior lighting (Sorry, I do not know which one it is at this time) and see if it is missing/loose

As a side note, my coding worked fine and did not affect the ability of the lights to come on or off. Restored it multiple times to factory and it was a hardware issue, not a software one. That was when I decided to bring it into the shop.

I had the same issue! BMW just called and said that there was a loose wire in the driver side door. I'm not sure if it's the wild door mechanism that makes it prone to disconnecting, but that's two cases right there.

I am actually dealing with a situation on the passenger side door where the latch assembly is not working properly, so the door does not properly 'snap' onto the hinge and remain closed shut. I took apart the panels and can see that a cable is not present when it should be, and the latch assembly is not clicking like the driver side does. I am trying to see if replacing the whole assembly will solve it. Makes me wonder just like you said if there is something wild with the mechanism that causes these issues.

Sure I will try to take a photo and post it. It is a wonderful color and looks simply stunning. It's my favorite color choice at the moment. It is more of a magenta than a deep purple. Red and dark blue are other great colors.
