My daughter is looking at the i3 as a potential first car and we would be getting a lease return or straight used one. My wife drives a volt so we have the charging infrastructure at the house and we are experienced with EVs so the general stuff is no issue.

I'm mainly wondering about typical issues in the 2014-2017/18 range? I don't know what type of cooling BMW used for batteries either, the Volt is active and takes good care of the battery, has range degradation been an issue?

TIA, if there are good resources out there I would be happy to read them as well.

We have a 2016 I3 REX in uk. Came with 6k miles and now has 30k miles. No issues with reliability at all. Range is good, a bit less in winter as batteries generally don't like the cold.

No degradation that I can notice. Would be a great first car but I would imagine un-insurable as a first car in UK.

My i3 rex is 5 years old with 30,000 miles. It has approx. 20% battery degradation according to the onboard SOC tracker. No reliability issues thus far other than the rex sometimes not liking old gas. I found it's good to use the hold state of charge feature to burn the gas out more frequently than the car's programmed maintenance cycles.
