I would assume so but I personal know three people who've been caught doing over 90, and walked away free or with a ticket. As I said, my cousin got doing ~95 and got a ticket. And two people I know did 100+ and walked away free. Don't ask me how.

My parents told me when they got tickets, (for other things, such as seatbelts, etc.), they would pay - then have it reversed..? Does that not imply to me because I need traffic school?

As for going 90+ they can arrest you. You can always fight it. Usually the cops dont have the speed on the radar gun or they dont show up to court. But be warned, if they show up and testify, you may or may not get your fine lowered. It could make things worse.

For the ticket thing...how old are you?? If you're under 18, you go to the juvenile court. They ask you whether you'd like to admit guilty/not guilty. If you admit guilty you pay the fine and can sign up for traffic school. If you plead not guilty you can set a court date. If you're 18 or over, you will attend a local court. Usually the county court. Last time I was there I just paid the fine. You can try to do it your parents' way. It doesnt hurt. Remember, the ticket was meant to teach you a lesson. Just be glad that you're still alive cus things could have gotten a lot worse. G'luck

Yeah, I know it's to teach me a lesson. I hardly speed though. I mean, I do, but not like the one I was caught doing. Just naturally and safe. A few miles over, here and there. And ever since I got the ticket, I've been a little scared and been looking over my shoulder every second.

Also, I'm 18 and it's in my first ticket. If I go to court and the cop shows up, what's the worst that could happen? I heard I'll have a good chance of losing and they won't give me traffic school - they'll give me 1-2 points. Is that the worst of it?

Just be a man and pay the money.
You got caught, so you have to pay the piper.
You've already admitted guilt: To yourself, to us, and to God.

Just pay the fine and do the traffic school. Otherwise things could just get worse. If the cop does show up, it will probably end up bad for you. He was porbably in a good mood to let you keep your car. dont take his kindness for weakness.

You're your own worst witness. What's behind you every other second isn't important. It's what's in front of you. And a traffic court judge having to spend court time listening to that from anyone, especially an 18 year old with a new BMW, might get a little irritated. I don't think it's just a matter of 1-2 points. You might have to pay court costs and anything else within the statutory maximum. Who knows? If he's having a bad day, he could probably order you to do community service. And what are you going to say if the officer does show up? "I was only doing 50?" Your entire case rests on the officer not showing up. Not the best odds.
Personally, I wouldn't take the gamble. I'm not sure about insurance points, but 1 to 2 points for an 18 year old driver might result in significantly higher insurance premium for three years.

There was an article about this on how to beat a ticket on Edmunds: http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/dri...3/article.html

It basically says there is no reason not to go to court, because you can always change your mind and choose traffic school. Here is an excerpt:

“However, I still had one ace in the hole. If the ticketing officer did show up, and my defense was falling on deaf ears, I could quote California Vehicle Code 41501 allowing me to attend traffic school. But — and this was important — I should make a photocopy of the law because some judges weren't familiar with it.

"If it looks like you're going to lose, say, 'Your honor, I see that you're very busy here. I will cite CVC 41501 and take traffic school,'" Meyer told me.”

But if I'm 20-30 over the speed limit, they don't let you take traffic school.

But for real pay the piper, if you plead not guilty and the cop shows up to bust your ass, then you'll have to pay the fine plus you no longer can take traffic school for the ticket, that equals 2 points to the insurance company (one point for the DMV) and that means your insurance will go up considerably.

0-10 MPH over the speed limit = 1 insurance point
10-XX MPH over the speed limit = 2 insurance points.

they've got a different point system. my advice is pay the ticket and take traffic school, you can even take it online.

If you get the choice to pay and go to traffic school my advice is to take it. That's what I'd do. However, at that speed they may not offer you traffic school. Fighting it is a gamble at best. Good luck.

The judge will get pissed off and might give you a bigger fine. Even I dont drive that crazy and IM ALL FOR SPEED. Jeez...they might give you 2 points for reckless driving/exhibition of speed. Would you like me to scan the piece of paper to prove it?

I wouldn't lie.

And the thing that makes me angry is that everyone's ticket is different. How'd my cousin do 25 over and pay $200 and I doubled him and it's $351?

Oh well, if you want me to scan it, just ask. I have a new scanner so it'll come out especially nice.

I'm not questioning the $351.......just the 79 on a 35 lane.

Don't worry about it........no need to scan.........

If it was a setup......take it to court......

What did it say on the original ticket? I bet he wrote something less......so you won't challenge it.

Lol, the ticket says 79.

I'm sure it wasn't a set-up, but I can't believe I was going that fast.

My fine was $116 about 2 years ago when I got caught for going 80 on the freeway (65mph limit). I think if your record is clean you wont get charged that much. As for One-Way: I dont get how I was wrong. LOL I said you were lucky they didnt arrest you because they can. I never said anything about how much the fine was going to be. I dont know how it works. People were telling me when I got my ticket that the fine was going to be around $300. It turned out to be $116. Trust me, if you take this to court (which you're not), you will bring more trouble on yourself. Anyways, I guess the outcome isnt as bad as it could have been.

I drove a friend's E46 330Ci last year. I was going 80 on a 40mph zone. I didnt even KNOW I was going that fast. When I looked at the speedometer I just hit the brakes. Crazy stuff.

Yeah, I just felt like quoting more than two people or else the "you's" wouldn't work. Thanks for the help though.

I should take this to court, have it dropped, and prove everybody wrong there too - but apparently, I think I caught a break by getting a $351 ticket, I think that's enough.
