I8 doesn't enjoy much love here. I think the car have a tremendous presence on the road. The new spider Looks even better than the coupe. As for performance, everyone says it is underpowered. But what did BMW want to do with this hybrid? Make a supercar? No, it's basicly a hero car for BMW i. The Numbers isn't impressive but i think the i8 are doing what is was supposed to do. I wish the spider came earlier though and that the Numbers were 10% better. Love the gold colour also

Me, too: If this magnificent automobile had at least a 2.0-liter four-cylinder motor in place of the IC oddity in it now, I'd have to own one.

The i8 was never a performance car!

At this point we should understand that if BMW wanted to make a track or 0-60 focused car than they could... especially with a hybrid powertrain. I think everyone just needs to stop associating price with horsepower/toque or 0-60 times. Clearly Tesla has broken that system. The i8 represents the future of the bmw i brand ?

Why do you say that? BMW has never really made ANY production cars with performance as the top priority. Their M cars (M2, M3, M4, M6) are all fairly slow mostly because of their weight and honestly the fastest cars in BMW's lineup are the Alpina B6 and M760i (both of which are 0-60 in 3.6 per BMW, tested at 3.4) and neither are really that great in comparison to other luxury performance cars.

Then they should not have make it LOOK like it could do something, performance wise. If they were out to show the viability of the platform, they should have used the minivan, I mean 2 series active dipshit model, as the form.

This is like when JC described the Corvette in the "Boy Band" category - sort of looks the part, but doesn't deliver on the level it should.

I think you misread , I agree that if bmw wants to make this car fast they know how to.

The "coupe" sign gets in the way, but still increases BHP by 10.

I definitely agree that it looks like a "fast car" but here's the thing... if they didn't make it look the way it does it wouldn't have gotten any attention at all. How many hybrid cars released after the i8 have got a lot of media attention? I can only really think of the nsx even though I'm sure there's more

Good point, but at least the NSX can "hang" with others that sort of look the same way, you know?

Just seems like an empty shell if you ask me - the shape and doors are cool, and they proved they could make the hybrid approach work - but it's all a little limp wristed from my perspective.

I agree completely there must be something going on within the company because there was a point in time where the i8 was actually innovative..... and now it just sits at the top of the range occupying a price point. The 5 and 7 series have surpassed it as far as technology and safety systems and this spyder should have been released 3-4 years ago because it brought nothing noteworthy fundamentally with it

I posted it on the prevoius page, alot of the individuals associated with the original i8 design left BMW to join some Chinese Company and that lost of Talent has reared it's ugly head 3-4 years later.

Laziness ? I don’t know...but it’s not any sort of halo car, doesn’t outperform or outdistance other hybrids, so...it has no purpose at all...

Post Finally!

Finally, they announced this car! I can't believe how long BMW took, given that they showed this car in secret in Munich this summer.

http://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ghlight=munich

They have however made a few changes since the secret prototype.

The most significant change is the massively better engine deck. It is better contoured, and is black. It was originally flatter, and in body colour, making it look like a boat deck, and much too big.

The Roadster is gorgeous in the metal. Truly stunning

Seats are greatly improved by the way.

I don't like the c pillar badging on both models though. They look cheap and unnecessary.

I agree with others' comments that the 12HP power increase is pitiful.

Overall, though the lack of changes to the original i8 go to show how right BMW got it with the original i8.
