They take toyotas, dress them up (poorly) and then price them as if they were a BMW or Mercedes. Their suspensions suck, their engines suck, their transmissions suck.... I just f'ing hate lexus.

from a purely engineering perspective, i would say i hate most american cars, but especially the lower end (i.e. those in the 10-20k price range).

this is based upon my experience w/ them at first job, where we had a fleet of 6-7 such cars for work in the late 90s early 00s (the cars were purchased new at that time):
-99 pontiac grand am V-6
-two 01 GMC sonoma pick up trucks, base model w/ 5 spd manual and 4-cyl
-00 chevy monte carlo 2-dr (2nd highest trim model)
-02 ford ranger 5-spd manual, 6-cyl engine
-01 chevy silverado base model (this was probably the best vehicle)


my only point of comparison at that time was my own car, a 99 toyota corolla that i'd purchased new after starting the job (my first job after undergrad, i couldn't afford to insure anything faster, ha ha).

some things i noticed about the american cars (which all were at a higher price point than my corolla):
-poor rated power output for a given displacement
-extremely poor interior fit and finish, perceived quality (quality, grain of plastics, large gaps btwn dashboard components, etc)
-poor interior mechanical design (ex: the dashboard vent design in the grand am was particularly bad)
-crappy handling--i get this for the trucks, but the monte carlo and grand am were marketed for "driving excitement"--even my corolla handled better

Not a brand that I really hate, but I don't have much with Japanese and Korean cars. I do really hate those stupid small cars with a 3cyl engine though like the Toyota Aygo, what an utter incredible ugly pos just like the Prius.

As far as brands go, I really hate Chrysler too. Maybe Fiat can turn them around, but Chrysler of today embodies everything bad about American cars.

Sure, they made some good muscle back in the day, but I feel like they've been run by people who don't give a care for the past 20 years. Chrysler LeBaron, LHS, 300, Cirrus, Sebring, Cordoba, T & C, Aspen (WTF on that one, and they had a hybrid. It's just a reworked Durango)

I really do not like any of these cars.

They make good priced, comfortable, reliable cars for people to get from point a to point b. Sounds like a purpose to me. Its the reason camry and corollas sell so well all around the world

Between their horrid looks, their top-loader transmissions dropping gears, their Essex 3.8's blowing head gaskets (and producing no power), their 5.4's blowing spark plugs out, and of course their Mustangs sucking for the last 30 years (not the 2011 though), I just cannot stand them. I will admit that the new Mustang is going to rock the house, but I absolutely hate Ford with a passion. After that probably Audi/VW.

Being honest though, there are good/bad things about every single brand out there, it just depends on what you want I guess.

And also Toyota is starting to really take a crap these days. I like the 5.7 Tundra and that is it.

It looks like that is exactly what happened on a 545-mile London-Geneva run, when a diesel-powered BMW 5-series posted better MPG stats than a petrol-based Toyota Prius hybrid. The BMW 520d with a 2.0-liter diesel engine and regenerative braking posted an impressive 41.9 mpg--about 0.9 mpg better than a full hybrid Prius. The difference may not seem huge. But given that the Prius weighs about 500 lb less, BMW's fuel economy lead was significant enough to raise new questions about which drivetrain technologies are more environmentally viable and should become the future mainstream of sustainable transport.

According to our partner site Technoride, the 5-series' triumph over Prius can be attributed to "a series of energy-saving features BMW calls EfficientDynamics: battery recharge when braking, good aerodynamics, low rolling resistance, a continuous fuel consumption gauge on the dashboard, and a six-speed manual transmission that is rated as improving fuel economy by about 10%."
