Watch Insurance
I was just curious if anyone here insures their watches? I have a nice collection but only 3 that I would consider insuring. I have some of my wife's jewelry insured through our homeowners policy. I could just add it to that I guess. Or is there any watch specific insurers out there? And if you do insure a watch what do you pay, if you don't mind stating?

You should always put a decent timepiece on your insurance policy, it's not expensive. If you didn't buy it within the last 12 months (at least for my carrier) you need to take it to a jeweler and get it appraised. That's it. Very easy.

I have a VPP rider for all of our jewelry not just the watches. It’s a small price to pay and worth it. There’s no deductible either so that’s nice.

i have jewelry coverage on my homeowners insurance up to a certain amount. should probably raise that coverage after a few purchases this last month though.
if you want a separate insurance, most jewelry insurers will insure watches as well, and you can get pretty good rates for $0 deductibles. Just a quick quote for ~30k worth of watches is $400 a year w/ 0$ deductibles from jewelers mutual. |

I have a large safe too, the problem is a safe won't help when you get mugged on the street.

Depending on the setup, that's nothing a little leverage can't overcome. When I had my gun safe delivered the guy advised me to cover any gaps that thieves could wedge a bar in. He'd seen all sorts of break ins, and in the end it really doesnt matter to a determined thief if it's bolted down. You can only buy some time before someone shows up, assuming you have a home alarm, someone reports the break in, etc. Take it for what it's worth, it really depends on your situation.

I do have mine in the gun safe, but I also have mine insured on my homeowners policy.
I'm in a unique situation compared to most people insuring watches though. I inherited my grandfathers 1971 Rolex Daytona Exotic Dial. It's worth about as much as my house is worth LOL! So, adding it to my homeowners policy was a pretty large jump in premiums (understandably). In the end, I can't risk not insuring my watches. One of them is basically irreplaceable if something were to happen.
